Re: what the hell is wrong with my engine
if you have anything other than Delco plugs in i would change them out to Delco's. I put some Boshe plugs in mine and they lasted about 2000 miles before they fouled up and started to make my engine hesitate under load.

Re: what the hell is wrong with my engine
only thing i can think of is it is either your plugs, wires and/or coils. i would start out by replacing the plugs with delco's and check your wires to make sure they are not damaged.

Re: what the hell is wrong with my engine
i would check you wires again, i had the same problem on a pair of new wires. it ended up grounding out on the engine causing it to misfire.

Re: what the hell is wrong with my engine
I had a similar issue last summer, only on really hot days. my scenario was this: if it was 90+ outside, you'd have to accelerate with 20% throttle or less, otherwise it would basically bog down and not accelerate. I changed the coils and saw no improvement. i then popped the plugs out, which were less than a year old, inspected, and regapped them. some were tight, some were loose, but that fixed the problem. whether that was the actual problem or not, i dont know. in the process of taking it apart i may have fixed something else.

Re: what the hell is wrong with my engine
My 98 s10 2.2 is doing the same thing, its got brand new plugs, wires, both coil packs, and a clean k&n drop in filter. NO codes what so ever.
When i take off from a stop sign or light it will bog down like a quick misfire, then will continue to run fine. mine seems to only do it when i take off, or when i let it de accelerate for a few seconds and then hit it, it will misfire, or bog down. WTF is wrong with this thing?? |

Re: what the hell is wrong with my engine
Mine will sputter at take off and #4 is dead at WOT until about 3500 rpm's then it comes back in every gear.I'm leaning torwards a fuel problem instead of ignition, any $.02?

I had the same problem with my blazer. It ended up being the spider to the fuel injectors. Try replacing that

Re: what the hell is wrong with my engine
I have the same problem. My 2.2 L has 85,000 miles and 9 years on it so I decided to change out the plugs (was running great before I tuned it up lol).
I installed AC Delco plugs but in the process I pulled the clip off the wire closest to the firewall. I carefully repaired the wire/clip and re-attached to the new plug. The day after I replaced the plugs, the truck started sputtering and hesitating and generally has very poor get up and go at lower rpm's. Higher rpm's it seems to be ok. It sounds like it's running on 4 cylinders, but poorly. So yesterday I replaced the coils. No difference. Since I did such a nice job reapairing the wire I don't think that's the problem. I believe changing out the plugs changed the resistance in the circuit and it caused some other electrical component to fail. I could get new wires but that might be a waste of money. Any thoughts? Thanks. |

Re: what the hell is wrong with my engine
i think yhat you might have a clogged fuel filter and its not given enough under a load but will allow it to run while at idle

Re: what the hell is wrong with my engine
i have a 98, and had problems just like these and sometimes it would throw the #4 cylinder code. i changed the plugs, wires, coils, and fuel filter. no help. i ended up taking the fuel pump out. 98 and up is the one piece pump and sending unit so its very expensive. what i did was use a siphon pump to get the gas out the tank(had a little trash in it) i didn't feel like trying to drop the tank so i used a shop vac and sucked the tank clean. i carefully took the pump/sending unit half way apart. it is all inside a big plastic case with a strainer on the bottom. the bad thing is the strainer is not removable. if you take it out of that casing you can use a shop vac to get the strainer clean. also when you take it out the pump is still in another case with a strainer on it. that one is really hard to get clean. mine had a lot of stuff in it. i spent about an hour with the shop vac trying to get the trash sucked out. put it back together and haven't had another problem with it. that was probably 3000 miles ago.

Re: what the hell is wrong with my engine
also if it is the pump there are some good threads on here about how to install an inline pump and leave your stock one in the tank and still use the sending unit on it so your gas gauge works. i think it only runs around $100

Re: what the hell is wrong with my engine
the stutter problem on my truck was caused by the vacuum line that runs from the throttle body to the vac canister in teh drivers fender. w/ only 84k on it the hose was all cracked and rotten.
how did you put the seafoam in the truck? if its in teh crankcase, you're only supposed to put it in for like 15 mins then change the oil. for upper cylinders you supposed to pour it into a vac source on the throttle body. and then teh rest goes into the gas tank. use a 1/3 of the can for each...but i've never done the oil. if you pour seafoam into the vac source, you're suppose to do it while its running. and it will smell horrible and probably smoke really badly for that day. |

Re: what the hell is wrong with my engine
I just checked the same vaccuum hose and yes mine also was cracked and rotten also. I taped it and it still misfired a little, so I won't know if that's causing my ignition problems until I get a new hose, as I don't think the tape job can really hold vaccuum.

Re: what the hell is wrong with my engine
Mine would cut out under acceleration, then my fuel pump went out after a while. I replaced that and my sending unit, and all was well.. but then again, I went ahead and did plugs/wires, and fuel filter at the same time.

So you just installed new wires and the problem was gone? Did the old wires look damaged? I fixed my vaccuum hoses but I'm still getting the misfire after I shift gears and try to accelerate. It's much worse in the morning compared to when it's warmed up. Did you have to take any parts off to get the wires installed? It looks a bit tight. |
