Re: turbo build begins!!!

i dont know i just know i love it...and the turbo is much easier imo because im not to familiar with sc systems and sc is belt driven.

as for hp, im prolly close to 200hp give or take, thats with everything pretty much stock still! havnt had time to get it on a dyno!

here is the new air inlet location! fits better under the hood too!

I have been running a boosted 2.2 for almost 7 years now and I still enjoy driving it as much now as I did the first time I took it out... actually it's more fun now because it's faster than ever!

Your air filter set up looks much better now, at the very least you should be running much safer IAT's and consequently lower EGT's. Have you switched to colder plugs yet?

Re: turbo build begins!!!

The plugs heat range basically refers to how far into the combustion chamber the plug sits. A colder plug is built so that it doesn't protrude into the cylinder as far as a hotter plug would. You'll probably learn a lot more details in school but it'll keep the engine from detonating. Throw some ngk 4554 copper series plugs in if you get a chance.

Re: turbo build begins!!!

Is your truck flex fuel? Just wondering what you did with your fuel pump setup.

Re: turbo build begins!!!

I figured, cause I've read through yours completely and wasn't sure if I skipped over you buying an aftermarket pump or not.

Re: turbo build begins!!!

i got thsoe ngk plugs turbos10 and i have to say that was a good tip...the truck felt a noticable diffrerence right away, but i think i messed up one of my plug wires when i was pulling the boot off the old plug, so you got any suggestions for wires?

I don't have a favorite wire brand... msd, accell, any of the name brands should be fine. I think "performance distributer" might have a pre made set but you'll probably have to get a universal four cylinder set and custom fit them from anyone else. I don't think the big names make them for the 2.2l yet. Does anyone else know?

Taylor makes wires specific to our trucks as well.

Re: turbo build begins!!!

set the gap to .35 and you can get magnecor pre made 8mm or 10mm ithink just google them. i'm also going to go to that plug few more weeks.like your setup good job just a thought about the iat location, been doing alot of research and many turbo builds relocate the iat into 12-14'' before throttle body as it monitors charge temp and will help retard timing slightly as your boosting.i'm running 2 bungs one each location so i can go between to check which is better but all say put by t/b.

theoretically the closer the better but it doesn't make that much difference with the 2.2l ecu's... especially on low boost with premium fuel (or E85) and the colder plugs. We just retune what the computer is supposed to do with the iat once the engines are built and boost starts to be increased. Sometimes it can be a hassle to keep the iat installed in an intercooler pipe!

Re: turbo build begins!!!

GM does have one on different models that threads in.
the push in ones will leak boost up through the connector.
but personally mine is on the intake to the turbo.
