Re: turbo build begins!!!

not wasting money just want that right now so i know im not gonna be running to lean..so i know if im pushing to much boost for my stock engine and injectors. ill be getting hptuners eventually and bigger injectors once i get it running ok and no leaks. and i dont think ill need a wideband and there expensive...can't u do stuff with hptuners that the wideband does? still learning about the tuning and programming part of FI vehicles

yea ive thought of that as well...i dont know if i could or not i dont see why not. but i was able to bend them without damaging anything so when i do start the install ill check fitment again because actually these new ones arnt that much taller then the tial ones either so either way im gonna have to do somthin about it!

Re: turbo build begins!!!

ordered my turbo and oil line kit today! jsut the bov, and a custom downpipe and the basic build is all done and just need to install!!

i decided to go with a smaller turbo since the engine is still only stock, the bigger turbo woulda been overkill for it and about pointless with the amount of turbo lag i would probably get and do me no good right now. ill just upgrade the turbo later as i build up the internals! here are the spec on the new turbo!!
  • Stage 3 turbo capable of 350-450 HP
  • Capable of 25-35 PSI output at peak power performance
  • External wastegate with provisions for internal actuator
  • Compressor
    • Inlet (ID / OD) = 2.5" / 3"
    • Intake (ID / OD) = 1.75" / 2"
    • Inducer = 52.8 mm
    • Exducer = 75.5 mm
    • Trim = 49
    • A/R = 0.50
  • Turbine
    • Outlet = 2.25"
    • Turbo flange = T3
    • Downpipe flange = 5-bolt T3/w 3" v band adaptor
    • Inducer = 57.8 mm
    • Exducer = 73.4 mm
    • Trim = 62
    • A/R = 0.63
  • Center Section
    • Oil cool system
    • Oil feed = T3
    • Oil return = T3

Re: turbo build begins!!!

ok ran into some issues today when i started the tear down and mounting process...got some hood clearance issues so im gonna have to tell david at dts to cut it down some if he makes one like this again and angle the wg flange a lil more to clear the brake lines...still haven problem with them but i havnt ran out of ideas yet! its def gonna take a lil more time then expected..i guess nothings perfect when ur doing it yourself and custom build.. starting on the hood tomorrow and going from there..

I'd call him on it...
that looks like it sits way high.
with the turbo that close to the hood you will need a ton of insulation

yea its def to close thats for sure, im gonna be buying a heatblanket and lots of heat tape, and wrapping the downpipe, im gonna have to cut some of the hood im thinkin but idc, as long as she runs good then im ok with it, and ill have some kind of top made for it so when the weather is bad i can put it on and better airflow for the turbo anyway ive got ways to make everything work!

Re: turbo build begins!!!

got a little more done today and some minor fixing here n there!

oil tube is kinda in the way of where my downpipe is going to be going so im gonna cut it and then reweld it in the other direction so its not in the way or to close to the downpipe and cut off the oil line bracket

heres just a view of some of the space i have for the downpipe im goin 2.5" for now but 3" eventually

got the bov intake side done today waiting for my 2"-2.5" compressor coupler to come in before i do the turbo side

this was a old coolent line that went by the header and bracket to the dipstick tube..it was a metal line in the middle and couldnt flex so i had to take it out to make room for downpipe

the replacement line for the picture above easier to route away from all the hot pipes..

same as above just another view

ok so the brake lines i couldnt do anymore with if i bended them anymore i would be doing damage or bending to much so my next plan b is to mount a 90* bend to have it route this way!

since its going to be goin that way now i had to remote mount the power steering resevoir box and move the line around

my flex pipe came in and damn that was fast i ordered it yesterday and it was here next day from summit racing..

Re: turbo build begins!!!

got a couple more things today!! shes startn to come together pretty nice now that most the hard stuff is figured out!

my 2.5" flex pipe vband adaptor for the 5 bolt to vband adaptor i ordered, o2 sensor bung for new piping!!

these boost connects are freakn amazing and a time saver i have so many different ends to hook up to everything on my bov, wastegate, vaccum lines and boost gauge with extra holes with the block off pin in it if i need another line later! check it out!!

replaced old beat up vac lines on the truck with new ones!

and heres where im at thus far, still waiting for new oil feed line and got to get a oil drain adaptor still! got my iat sensor installed as well today!

Looking good. I was gonna say maybe look into a cowl hood for more clearance, but seen you have one already.

lol yea i can make more clearance the cowl hood will give about 2 more inches ill just have to remove a section of the brace frame from underneath it and im hoping that will work with special heat matts i can stick on the top of the hood underneath/heat blanket/ pipe wrap..etc

Re: turbo build begins!!!

looks like an expensive way to add the oil feed.
I just took out the plug on the block above the oil filter next to the head and ran my feed from there.

but looking good. getting pretty close now.
as for the wastegate, personally I dont like how they sound when they are open.
sounds like an exhaust leak to me. but lots of people like it.

Re: turbo build begins!!!

ive personally never heard one so thats why im gonna try it open just to see..if it sounds bad ill route to exhaust, lol the oil sandwhich was about 40 bucks..i got tired of trying to figure out what an size i needed and stuff..lol so this was so much easier..def gonna have videos as soon as i can for u guys...

ive got alot of spare parts now..lol extra oil feed line, couple intercooler pipes, adapters kept running into problems then fixed them lol...but it will be good to have spare stuff for future times if needed!
