The End Of My Sonoma?
ok, so today i was cruising down the road in my 2.2l 99 sonoma. its spuddered once, then twice, then just started shaking horribly. then i stopped at a gas station where a flashing ses light came up. called my buddy for a trailer and when he got there it wouldnt start. i checked the codes and they said cylynder 1 missfire, (also pending), air intake temp, and finaly injector circuit. anyone know what my problem is? anything would be great here guys!

Re: The End Of My Sonoma?
that sucks, well considering that most people on here that get missfire codes it usally ends up being a bad injector or the ecu sometimes and you got codes for a missfire and the injector circuit, its most likely fixable you just need to figure out if its just an an injector or 2 or your ecm or maybe even the crank sensor causing the problem. but sounds totally fixable

Re: The End Of My Sonoma?
could also be a bad coil pack if it is missfiring

Re: The End Of My Sonoma?
true a bad coil pack would cause misfires but wouldn't explain the injector circuit code coming up

Re: The End Of My Sonoma?
does the truck run at all? or does it just crank? if it runs and you wanna see if its the injector, i would run some seafoam throw the booster line to see if that cleans anything out

Re: The End Of My Sonoma?
well the main reason i bet why it wont start right now is because its flooded, if your smelling fuel like crazy but there is no fuel leak its from flooding the engine.
depending on how many times you tried to start it it could take anywhere from 10-30+ min for the fuel to evaporate enough for the engine to even try to start up. |

Re: The End Of My Sonoma?
yeah thats plenty of time to clean out, does it still smell like gas after you try to start it a few times?
try pulling the plugs to see if any of them are getting really excessive amounts of fuel on them |

Re: The End Of My Sonoma?
Do you have a crank position sensor signal? if your crank sensor doesnt work you wont have fire and and no fire no start. start there.

Re: The End Of My Sonoma?
someone correct me if i'm wrong but the crank sensor controls both the injectors and the ignition firing, you wouldn't get gas or a spark if it wasn't working i think
i'm leaning twords it being a stuck injector flooding the engine or the ecm malfunctioning imo |

Re: The End Of My Sonoma?
The fuel injector circuit code would lead me to believe that it is a shorted injector causing this issue.

Re: The End Of My Sonoma?
my 03 s10 did the same thing..i had just made a 95 mile one way trip (190 round trip) when she died 2 MILES FROM HOME....turned out that one of the coil wires on the coil pack found its way loose..i only noticed it when my neighbor had me crank it at night when he got home, and i saw arcing near the coil pack on the passenger side..plugged the b*tch it and it fired right up
just a thought..... |

Re: The End Of My Sonoma?
ok, new info. cylinder 1 missfire code, and plug is soaked with fuel. doesnt throw any other missfire codes, but cyl 2 is also soaked. 3 and 4 are quite clean and fine looking. i found oil dripping down from somewhere, but i can tell where. its on the from where the driverside lower a arm connects. i got it to start and it deff sounds like its running on 2 cylinders, and it shakes and jumps. blowing white smoke that reaks of unburnt gas. any ideas now?

Re: The End Of My Sonoma?
I'm new to the S10, so bare with me, i'm a honda guy haha. i just picked one up, and the exact same thing happened to me. First thing i check was my coil pack and noticed it wasn't firing. Replaced that .. and it fired right up and runs like a dream. i also cleared the codes, and one was a misfire, and the other was something with fuel. Cant remember the code.

Re: The End Of My Sonoma?
white smoke is not good man, check your coolant while its running, pull the cap off the radiator and if the coolant is bubbling or spurting out while its running and/or you can smell exhaust/fuel in it you have a blown head gasket, it very common on these motors and the white smoke says its burning coolant |

a head gasket is a lot of work, if youre good with cars and know what you are doing then its not too bad, but i wouldnt do it if you dont know that much about mechanics.

Re: The End Of My Sonoma?
i did the head gasket on mine about a month ago, its not that hard just time consuming and can get expensive
you will need to remove the whole top of the motor, intake, radiator shroud, clutch fan, front accessory bracket, put the ac compressor and power steering pump aside in the engine bay out of the way, no need to disconnect them completely, then you need to take off the exhaust manifold, i never had to remove mine completely because the studs came out with the nuts, the intake manifold is best left on the head its real hard to get to all the bolts for it but you will need to disconnect the fuel rail lines front and back as well as some wiring harnesses that are bolted to the intake manifold and under it. once it's off you need to take the head to a machine shop so they can check it for cracks and warpage its likely going to be warped and they will have to resurface the head, then put it back together with new gaskets and change the oil to make sure no coolant got into it when you took the head off the motor, also make sure to drain as much coolant out as you can before taking off the head to reduce the amount of water that will come out of it when its removed, pulling the water pump off gets most of it out of the head |

ok, new develpoments, i checked all the wires, they are pretine. it will run, but sounds like on 2 cylinders. cyl 1 and 2 are still soaked with fuel! 3 and 4 are great. smake went away for the most part, and it has absolutly NO power at all. i couldnt even get it to move un the lip into my garage in reerse. its only 1/2 an inch. had to push it! the coolant smells like coolant, lol no gas, and it doesnt bubble. oil smells like gas though. tranny smells and looks great. still throughing a cyl 1 missfire though! help!

Re: The End Of My Sonoma?
Ha ha...that sucks, i know my truck has been getting shitty gas mileage. Due to the mere fact that i definitely need new injectors. Engine idle is a lil rough especially in drive..In neutral its fine..Almost Everything has been replaced with OEM parts so far for now...soon to be rebuild the block and with massive performace add ons.. Just bought new Borg warner fuel injectors and will be putting them in soon. Funny thing is im very sure its my fuel injectors, but havent given me any SES light yet...knock on wood!

Re: The End Of My Sonoma?
alright, just heard from my mechanic! bad news. he told me to replace the logic module on my own and if that doesnt fix it to buy a diff truck. cyl 1 and 2 and just randomly miss firing when ever they want all the time. he said that 1 and 2 are both into the 2,000's of miss fires. he says that unless its the logic module, its trash!
