Supercharged

Ive been thinking of motor upgrades, power options, etc.
I know a V8 swap is what everyone is thinking about, but I have been thinking about an L67 motor (3.8l supercharged V6) Found in modern Impala SS, Buick Regal, Grand Prix GTP, Bonneville SSEI, and others.

I know the motor is a sideways mount in those cars, so it would take alot of work to set it in with the serpentine belt in front instead of the passenger side, so then... get one of these motors, a 5 speed transmission out of a V6 trans am or camaro, and a 10 bolt rear out of any full size pickup....
Not sure if it could work out, but the idea is pretty sweet for a street pickup that can blow away most of the cars it passes. An intake for the supercharger and a smaller pulley and they are making about 300 horse.

Just thought I would let out my idea.

comments? Suggestions?
Id like to talk about this with more people.

Re: Supercharged

I too thought about the L67 swap. More work then it's worth.

If your hell bent on a swap drop an 8cylinder in.

If you want cheap power turbo the four.

If you want really cheap power invest in some laughing gas.

Re: Supercharged

If your going to do something as radical as a 3.8 RWD application, make it AWD out of Astro van components!

On a serious note, won't the 3.8 setups out of the V6 Camaro's and 'bird's work?

Re: Supercharged

AWD would be insane.

But you make a very good point, I never thought of that.
seemed too easy I guess, but it makes alot more sense.
Im not sure if all V6 F- Bodies are the L67 motor though.
I guess I have some reasearch to do.

Re: Supercharged

hey man. yes that will work . ive already started that project.it has been easy so far. u need 2 fab your own motor mount on the drivers side.raise the motor up and run a cowl hood or notch thefront 4 the oil pan. run a remote oil filter and u can use the stock cross member i think. im not done with this yet.ill be done with this when the kids are grown lol. or when my 98 turbo 2.2 s-10 is done.

Re: Supercharged

biggest problem i know of is the firewall clearance. the air intake of the supercharger will be coming out into the firewall when you turn the engine for a rwd application. i've also read that the L67 supercharged engines use different cylinder heads than the na version of the 3800, and the intakes are not interchangable. it would be worth it if you could pull it off, the 3800 is a bullet proof engine. check out some of the gtp, grand national, and buick t-type forums, some of those guys are making some serious power with those engines.

Re: Supercharged

i've read that holden makes a housing for the 3800 superchager that works on rwd applications, but you would have to get it imported from somewhere

Re: Supercharged

Has anyone dropped in a non-sc 3.8 from a v6 f-body?
