strange sound from fan area
Ok so the truck is still running perfect, except for a strange sound that started out of the blue. It's like a loud whirring sounds that gets louder with engine speed. I'm not sure you can even hear it. But up higher in the rev range it's fairly loud. I think I'm maybe even hearing some light metal sounds as well. Is my fan done? Anyone?

Re: strange sound from fan area
ok after doing a search I think it's probably the fan clutch. Should I be able to turn the fan by hand when the engine is off? because I can't.

x2 on your fan clutch being shot. You should be able to turn it with the truck being off and cool.

Re: strange sound from fan area
my 95 makes the same noise that your describing, when i take off from a stop the thing sounds like a transport. gets worse in higher rpms, i have a glass pack muffler and the noise is way louder than it but my fan spins fine when the truck is not running. i plan on putting in an e fan and a set of underdrive pulleys soon.

Re: strange sound from fan area
my 00 jimmy did the same, sounded like a jet taking off for a second or two then it went away.
parents blazer was the same when that had low miles on it i just took that peice of junk off and replaced it with an electric fan. i have a 2.2 so i got a 2.2 cavy fan and it stays the same temp and cools pretty good for the $20 i spent ![]() |
