Re: Stock tach

I did my swap about 4 months ago. I would get one from the same year. I actually found one that had about a thousand more miles than my truck did. All I ended up doing was waiting until the miles matched and then I did the swap.

Re: Stock tach

I got a 2000 Sonoma, 2.2L and I bought a cluster with a tac from s10warehouse on ebay. The cluster was from a 2000 4.3L and it works fine in my 2.2L
It reads, as far as i can tell by ear, the correct RPMs and i have not had a problem.
Just read what s10warehouse says in the product description before you buy.
Also the red line is slightly off, and as long as you are not punching it all the time everywhere it should be good enough.
But if you need a 100% accurate reading from your TAC then you should spend the $$$ on one that is made for racing and not made by GM

My Two Cents

I am going to try and do some repair on my cluster gages and need a pic of how to remove the dash bezel. I get the idea but it would help if I knew where the clips were so I could know where to put the putty knife....Thanx... jf

Re: Stock tach

ok. first i'm not liable for anything in the below for post. please don't let this leave the forum.
to adjust the analog style odometer. you first need to pull the cluster apart take the odometer cluster out remove the plastic strip that lines up the lock pins in the bottom of the odometer cluster(do not loose or break this piece you can make another one but its a pita)take a pocket flat head and carefully wedge in between the digit you wish to change being careful not to distort the plastic. this will free the number wheel from the lock. spin the number wheel to desired milage make sure you keep your metal lock pins lined up so you can see what your number your display will read. then reassemble. this is no where near as complicated as it sounds. you can do it yourself i've prolly done a hundred or so for local car lots. leagally only of course. please don't use this info to scam people.

Re: Stock tach

Model electronics is the company that supplies the dealerships with the gauge clusters their telephone number is 1-800-433-9657. There is another company that makes them too, i sometimes use them when the cluster is out of warranty. sometimes they are cheaper than model sometimes they arent. The other company is Autocraft their phone number is 1-800-487-0605.

Re: Stock tach

if anyone wants a 95-97 2.2 5 speed cluster with tach, pm me or let me know. i know someone who is junking their truck. i no longer have a 95-97 truck, so i don't want to take it for the heck of it, i dont want things laying around either.

i just want to help out people that were in my shoes, since i tried to find one for the longest time, found one and sold my truck at the same time.

Can anyone give a pin layout on a 97 Blazer Cluster w/tach? 4.3 If it makes a difference. Also, a 4.3 cluster w/tach wont read correctly on a 2.2 engine?

I hope that's what you're looking for.

You can use the 4.3 in the 2.2 but your rpm's will read too low. the other recent post was talking about how to recalibrate it to work.

Re: Stock tach

i was reading some of the replies on here with people putting a cluster w/ tach from a 5spd into their autos. i know the prnd lights wont light up as there is no digital output provision for that area on those clusters (its normally under the tach) but what about putting an auto cluster w/ tach into a 5spd truck.

i have a 98 2.2 5spd w/o tach and i found a 98 2.2 auto cluster w/ tach, i want the tach for my truck so i was wanting to know if this would be a direct swap. what about the display area under the tach where the prnd selection would normally be. would this area on the auto tach still light up and display the prnd lights seeing how i dont have an auto?

thanks

Thanks for the diagrams tg 900. What does CTK mean, and what do I have to do to make my 4.3 tach work on my 2.2 engine?

Re: Stock tach

I don't mean to dig up an old thread but i am searching for information about swapping a tach cluster into my 97 2.2 5 speed but at the same time i am doing a 4.8 V8 swap with an auto 4l60e and i would like to add a column shifter and an auto tach'd cluster so i can both see what gear i'm in and see how my engine is doing.

Anyway to the point, i thought that the odometer reading is also stored in the ECU. Anyone ever heard of this? I know the 94-97's have physical number odometers but when i had my ECU replaced i had to have the exact milage reading.

Re: Stock tach

unless ur goin' for a nice " factory" look, i would keep the stock cluster, and run some auto meter gauges (tach, oil pressure, and water temp). and run a nice ratchet shifter. it would probably be easier to go that route, but it's ur call.

Re: Stock tach

I would prefer the factory look but due to budget and time constraints, it doesn't look like i will get what i want so yea a ratchet shifter and some aftermarket gauges are probably gonna be in my future.

WOW, look at the date of the posts you guys are quoting, they probably know this information by now. I want a stock tach, damn it's hard to find them for a 94. And I don't want to pay a lot, I like pull a part prices.

Yes, if you can post some pics!
once again, GM left our 95 S-10 2.2 stick without a tach cluster, and what a pain it is to pedal this truck through the gears from a light. Its a trade off with the gas mileage though.

Re: Stock tach

It's very easy to add an aftermarket tach for 40 dollars. I know it's not stock, but at least it is a good temporary thing until you can find stock. I have had an aftermarket tach for abotu 2 years now with no problems, I want stock, but it's next to impossible to find a 94 w/ tach without spending an arm and a leg.

Re: Stock tach

I'm thinking about taking an aftermarket tachometer with a shift light and cutting the plastic cover that goes over the guages to shape and placing it into my cluster and wiring it. My cousin did this with his car and it looks really awesome and works wonderfully.

What year truck? I don't know where you will fit it though, most s10 gauges I've seen don't have any extra room for any other gauges.

Not sure about other states but Florida doesn't have Inspections but there is also a box that can be checked if the milage is not correct, ie. Engine swap
