Are you sure the motor mounts will fit the block?
I think FWD blocks have differant location for the mounting holes

There are 3 different 2.2L motors. One is the J-car, one is the A-car and then the S-truck. They dont interchange. Been there, tried it, got the shot glass & the t-shirt-from it.

It will interchange. You have to change the motor mounts, oil pan and pick-up tube, oil pressure sensor, water outlet tube, brackets, timing chain cover due to the location of the tensioner, and possibly flywheel and pilot bearing depending on if the cavi motor you bought is out of a auto or manual. It will work I just swapped the motor in my 98 s10 with an 02 cavi motor.

save the time and money and just get another motor from an s-series. sounds to damn complicated to swap a fwd motor into a rwd.

97 and 98 are differant motors
According to the Hollinger interchange manual, the blocks between the FWD and RWD do not interchange, that doesn't mean you can't get it to fit, but it might take a lot of work.

Re: so who has swapped in a cavy motor ...

thats what i like to hear now i think the 96-97 have a crank sensor and a cam sensor but other then that they are the same as a 94-95 (block wise) and when i bought a 94 cavy motor ( last week) all it was really missing was the crank and cam sensors so we shall see. ill be starting the install hopefully wednesday ( depends when salvage yard can get it pulled ) worst case ill have a spare motor for a cavy if i ever get one

Yes but the fact is it was done. He is talking about a cavi motor out of a 97 anyways which will work.

Re: so who has swapped in a cavy motor ...

You have to remove the frost plug and bolt the filler neck from the truck engine on
