Re: Normal OPt temp on a 2000 s10?

are you running the a/c? that makes it go up a little. i believe the thermostats are either 185 or 195 leaning toward the 195

Re: Normal OPt temp on a 2000 s10?

same here...in the summer i get up past 215/220 quite frequently (that is when i have a/c running and everything with clutch fan) i hope my e-fan can help out with that. I have my theromstat on the e-fan set to come on when the temp reaches ~190. I turn it up a little more for autocross...or just turn off the fan during the trial runs...

later!

mine is around 200 - 210. I drove for over 4 hours with the ac on and it never moved past 210. The only time you would need to worry is when the fan kicks on, I believe thats like 215.

stock fans don't engage all the time they are basically just free wheeling. When the coil on the front of the fan gets hot enough the clutch will disengage and the fan will spin faster drawing more air. basically like a two speed fan.

I read in the manual that my truck has a thermostat that kicks in at 195 degrees. I assume that this is the optimum gas mileage temp? (in thinking of the addage of a motor too cold will get worse milage?) I only have mine fan's thermo turned up a little right now to autocross...warping the heads makes me think twice about it now, though if my truck were running 250 all the time then id really get worried...i noticed though, there is only one red line on the temp gauge and thats at 260? kinda wierd.

AJ

Edit: I also noticed that on the temp gauge it starts at 100, goes to 210 half way then at the end it is 260...thats a difference of 110 degrees in the first half of the gauge and only 50 degrees in the 2nd half? what the crap does this gauge KNOW that the scale is different after 210? I am kind of confused...

Ive heard that running too low can hinder gas mileage. I know for sure that my truck (99 sonoma) the thermostat in the motor opens up at 195...so i am assuming the optimum operating temp is somewhere in that area...i have my efan set to come on between 190 and 200...

160 might be kinda low...but thats just in my opinion.

i don't care, i stole someone's signal auto silvia one to make mine.

as for the temp, i think 180 would be better than 160. i bet your heater doesn't work too well.

160 is low, I go 180 the lowest on stock to some mods on 2.2. the reason lower stat temp hinder gas mileage because of the engine runing cooler and it needs to stay warm comp. got the fuel system to git more richer so the engine can git warmer. I use 180* for spring-summer wit a/c(if mom, girlfriend, etc in my truck) then in winter back to stock 195* so my truck able to maintain gas mileage and not get too hot(over 200*)
