Map Sensor?

This is the deal...

I have a 94 s10 like you probably know. When the map sensor is plugged in I get horrible gas mileage, and the car lags, and sometimes backfires. If I unplug the map sensor the car runs fine just doesn't start up the first time. If anyone could help me or if you have had this problem just post anything that you think would help out thanks a lot.

I think you have the map pluged into the wrong vacuum port. But I thought 94's had a maf not a map.

ok the map sensor is used along with the o2 sensor and the knock sensor to keep the engine in good fuel burining harmony. If one of these goes bad the engine doenst get the right A/F ratio thus running bad. Now if you pull the sensor (disconnect it) it will put the computer in closed mode using a preset fuel flow in direct conjuction to rpm and throttle position it wount run at its best but it will run better that if you have a bad sensor. You have a bad map get a new one.

Its on the back of the block, it has like an L shaped pieace of rubber, and nothing is coming out of it, but on my dads 96 it has a tubing coming out of it into the intake and I was wondering why I don't have one... I think its the AIR INTAKE...(think)

Have you tried looking it up in a repair manual? They usually have vaccum diagrams in them.
