just installed ASP pulleys looking for AL's Header

I just got my pulleys today from ASP. The install is cake with air impact. It took me about 20 mins. I used a 71.5" belt its a little tight on my 96. I think another inch would be perfect. So I could not wait to drive my little 2.2 to see what the pulleys would do. Pulling out the neighbor hood I floored it and broke tires loose for as long as i could stay in it. I was like HOLY SHIT. Man the power curve use to end at about 3500rpm and now it just keeps pulling to like 5000rpm. If you don't have a set of these pulleys it is definitely worth every penny. I am getting ready to upgrade my exhaust system and I have read so much good news about Al's header. Does anybody want to sell there old one or does anybody no where I can get one. If I cant find one whats the next best thing a OBX header. I got a 1996 2.2l. My exhaust is stock but I bought one of the test pipes of ebay to replace the cat. I am going to be replacing muffler as well just don't know what to get yet.

Re: just installed ASP pulleys looking for AL's Header

The pulleys are sick as hell. I got the STS ones on my '01. If you like that mod then look into swappin out your TB for a bigger one, i think your year can upgrade to 62mm. Im going with the OBX header. It looks sweet and it comes with all the down piping. I think the AL's only come with the header but could be wrong.

Re: just installed ASP pulleys looking for AL's Header

Now that I read this I think i'm gonna wait to lower my truck and do the STS pullies!!! Can you really notice a gain in power and does it help with fuel economy?

Re: just installed ASP pulleys looking for AL's Header

i think i got around 2mpg higher right after i put them on. Now with intake, exhaust, 56mm TB, and pulleys im getting 25-26 city and 30-33 highway.

Re: just installed ASP pulleys looking for AL's Header

Good luck finding al's header(those who don't know, he produce custom header for 2.2 long while ago, put 12hp/22-24tq to wheel, tested and dyno by Minitruckin'.

OBX would be the next choice.

56mmTB and efan will be great mod to do as well.

More power 2.2L improve, less it take to get it money which will yield better mpg.

Re: just installed ASP pulleys looking for AL's Header

I would think it would be similar in hp compared to Al's. I would expect at least 6hp maybe

Re: just installed ASP pulleys looking for AL's Header

wow alot of people are interested in performance for the lil 2.2l. I can't tell yet if I am getting better gas milage just put them on yesterday. It probably wont be any better cause I can't seem to drive it normal yet. I imagine that the gas milage should increase a lil. I get about 30 now. As far as the header deal I found a OBX STAINLESS STEEL header on ebay for 195+35 for shipping not a bad deal. Now who has bought one of these is it worth it. I am getting addicted to making my daily driver faster. I am going to be ordering some 1.6 roller rockers soon. I heard that is like the best mod you can do for a 96 2.2l. I was going to order them a week ago but had to pay some other unexpected bills.

Re: just installed ASP pulleys looking for AL's Header

no there is no waits or harmonic balancer on these engines its just a pulley.Serious check it out for yourself. Its just a pulley. I have done my research on these pulleys and they will not harm your truck in anyway.

I just bought one today for 00-04 so ill take some pics when i get it. Only thing that sucked so far is that both sellers for the 00-04 header w/ air injection were in cali so i had to pay tax

Re: just installed ASP pulleys looking for AL's Header

wait what pulleys? Under and alt pulleys I assume?

Can I just do underdrive? I dont have a system nor do I plan on it.
I always was under the impression that the underdrive pulleys would be a PITA on a 2.2.

I gota 98 btw

You should use both so that the voltage stays around the normal 14v.

Re: just installed ASP pulleys looking for AL's Header

That's awesome dropped01 you ordered a obx header. The stainless would look so sick under the hood. You have to PM me when you get it on and let me know how it performs since you already ordered it. superslw get alt and crank pulleys from asp. Now that I put them on my charging system is actually better than it was stock. The install is so easy, if you got air, it is actually simple. Check in the performance thread, there is a sticky on how to install them. I am definitely buying a set of 1.6 roller rockers next.

actually if you just install the alt pulley it will overdrive it and burn out your alt-faster, used with the under drive crank pulley it returns the alt speed closer to the stock speed.

overdrive alt pulley + underdrive crank pulley= closer to stock to keep the charging system working at low rpm

Re: just installed ASP pulleys looking for AL's Header

Thanks dropped01 for some reason i didn't find that site. lol I'll either order a set of pullies or an ebay CAI soon.

But wait, on the ASP site, It only says 94-00 2.2L CRANK pulley only. Where is the crank and alt for an 01 2.2?

Yea ill put some pics up of it this week cuz i searched through the threads and i couldnt find any close up pics of an OBX air injection header (smog). So ill put up pics of the header when i get it and some pics after i get it installed.

Mine was original so it did burn out a little while after i got them on but it was also old so i dont know if it was its time or if it was the pulleys. Even if it does burn out down the road you can pick them up at autozone with life time warranty. Ive been running them on the new alt for probably a year without any problems.

al's header bolts to a stock 1.75" downpipe. if the al's header got 12 more hp, then the obx header with 2.5" downpipe must get more power imo. i am buying the obx header on thursday.

Hey guys when you got the money and ready to order just call them and they will take care of you. I think the two pulleys came out to be like 126 basically 130. I got a gates belt from napa for like 30 bucks. Please post some pics when you get the obx header and let us know the how it performs.

ok you guys say that the throttle body mod is a great improvement but I have been searching for one for the past hour and every lead I find is dead. I am just trying to find out how much they cost and who sells them. But I can not find one for a 96.

Re: just installed ASP pulleys looking for AL's Header

asp website is not the greatest. I think the alt. pulley was for a camaro 305. If i remember tomorrow I will get the paperwork they sent me out of the garage. Its pouring outside and don't feel like walking out to my back garage. Well as far as the 94-97 throttle body goes the only one I found was from sts for 200+ I think. Screw that. I have to swap out the whole intake manifold. Its nothing like 98+. So i guess for now I will order my 1.6 RR and then focus on the exhaust. After I do that stuff it will probably be a good investment. More air=more power.
