Interesting Oil Leak...
O.K. So for the past year my 2000 2.2L has had a lil oil drip/leak...which drips on the exhaust pipe as well and stinks. But that and the drips on the ground made me wanna get it taken care of. Took it to a friend's dad who is a Master Tech who has done TONS of these 2.2s. He first did the rear main and I think the oil pan and it was still leaking same spot (after I got it back.) I gave it back to him and he thought maybe a drip or two of oil may have gotten on the pan sealant so he checked and re-did it as far as I understand. Got the truck back a few days ago and it STILL LEAKS from the same spot under the truck and onto the exhaust pipe.
This truck has a re-done and non leaking valve cover..clean as a whistle. Supposedly has a oil pan and rear that dont leak. He said that the timing cover and the front main are dry as a bone. My question is what could possibly still be leaking????? This guy is supposed to be one of the better mechanics around esp. with 2.2s and Diesel trucks. Please help as I really dont know what to do and the truck is a very clean truck but the underside is a lil nasty from the leak going for so long so its hard to tell. He claims he did a dye test as well./ Thanks in advance as usual guys, Chris Olson |

Re: Interesting Oil Leak...
my truck did the exact same thing. my mechanic suspected a rear main seal, but it turned out to be the oil filler tube seal... leaked in the exact same spot and did the same thing your truck is doing... hope that helps

Re: Interesting Oil Leak...
Make sure the PCV system is working correctly....that will induce a negative pressure (vacuum) inside the crankcase making the oil less likely to escape.

Re: Interesting Oil Leak...
I had started getting a leaking oil pan gasket and rear main seal..the rear main seal pretty much stopped once i got my trans. rebuilt they just slid it in there...But since i have the damn cross member in the way to where i could drop the pan with out taking out the engine, ill wait to replace it obviously once i get a new engine!. Ive just been using every other oil change Bars engine stop leak, doesnt clog up any oil passages, works with all kinds of oils..Have never had a problem with this additive. Has pretty much completely stopped my oil pan leak.Only use the stuff if you know there isnt anything wrong with any of the oil mechanical parts,, like cat daddy said, check pcv valve, etc . And check your oil filler tube, u might have to replace that simple o-ring,get AC-DELCO OEM....Good luck!

Re: Interesting Oil Leak...
try replacing the oil tube rubber grommet that is in the block. it's cheap and easy to do.

mine leaks in the same area onto the exhaust, its done it for years, i dont honestly really care because its a very small leak and it rarely drips on the ground even

Re: Interesting Oil Leak...
Thank you so much guys. I will check that out and report back as I want future people to get the same info if either of those are the fixes. It will be nice when she is all cleaned up.
