i have 2 problems

the first problem is on the top of the valve cover. in my 98 2.2L regcab manual i have a fair amount of oil coming out of the hole where the air/oil separator used to connect via tube and metal adapter. i replaced the intake and when i did i had to connect a new tube from the intake to the metal adapter. all fine there. the problem lies in the adapter itself. its quite loose in the hole and always has been (even before the intake swap) resulting in oil being all over the top of the motor and covering everything. there is not a measurable amount of oil being lost due to this but enough to require some cardboard to soak up the drip. my question is how is that metal piece supposed to sit in the hole. is there supposed to be rubber there that i am missing? can i just use some silicone sealant or some jbweld? am i losing some kind of vacuum pressure because of this.

my second problem may not be a problem at all but does concern me. its the oil pressure gauge fluctuating while driving. im not talking about running at 70psi cold, 40-50 driving, and 20 idling while hot. im talking about when i accelerate on the highway i used to watch my psi go up....now it drops slightly and will bounce back up when i let off the gas. it is quite erratic and is beginning to concern me. it will drop all the way down to 30psi or so even when at speed (ie going from 65mph to 70) then come back up. im thinking maybe its time for an oil change but i use full synthetic mobil1 high mileage; as i bought the truck with 120k miles, didnt know what had been done to the motor and figured full synth was a good idea. i have over 160k now and still use the same oil changing every 3k to 4k. i know its a waste of money but i figure better safe than sorry. sooooo is my oil pump going? is it just the gauge? im gonna try and change the oil to see if that helps.

Re: i have 2 problems

not sure about the first problem, but for the 2nd, i would check the oil pressure sending unit on the passenger side of the motor. mine went bad and was ready very erratic, and if you do buy a new one, get ac delco, i got 3 from oreillys and they were all junk, one even made my fuel pump run when the key wasnt even in the truck lol

Re: i have 2 problems

i cant see how changing full synthetic w/4000 miles on it would make that problem go away.unless it's contaminated w/something like antifreeze, just doesn't make sense.

Re: i have 2 problems

oil levels might have been low.

and the first part. more in depth: there is a tube that comes off the back of the air/oil separator. that tube has a metal end on it that fits into the hole on top of the valve cover. i removed the metal end from the factory tube and inserted it into an after market one. the metal tip/adapter is loose fitting in the valve cover and snug in the tube. i just finished putting some silicone gasket stuff on it and i hope that fixes the oil blowoff issue.
