stock is 2" diameter I believe and my asp pulley is 1" diameter, you still see a drop but I don't know much much difference with your 180amp and your system/compresser, however, there are other mods you can do before pulley

how does this affect your motor when driving on the highway does the moter have to work harder to spin the small pulley spin twice as fast?
also where can i get some at for cheap? and all i need is two or can you make all of them smaller?

Re: HOW TO: Install Performace Pulleys

The alt pulley will INCREASE your amps. I have stock everything with these underdrive pulleys on my 2.2L and the biggest thing I noticed is my truck DOESN'T bog down when I turn the A/C on now.
I also noticed my lights flicker and my voltmeter is well above 15. I think the alt pulley is the reason I popped my low beam head HELLA headlight bulbs. I put stockers in and they work fine but I still see my interior lights flicker and if i look at it I see my radio doing the same.

Re: HOW TO: Install Performace Pulleys

ok whatever man. Just trying to tell you what I feel. Before I put them on turning the A/C on would make my truck bog down and turning it off would free it up and it was a noticeable difference. I also noticed I can pick up some speed going down the freeway at 65. Before I could try all I wanted and put my foot as far down as it would go and nothing seemed to give the truck speed besides a semi passing me.

haha thats cool dude...but theres no way it doesnt bog your truck anymore..you put on pullies, its not gonna make your truck NOT bog...plain and simple...any vehicle with a/c wil bog, its something else the motor has to turn so it will bog, maybe not as much....im not saying you dont get more power cause thats been proven already,,,glad you like em...everyones had all positive things to say about pullies...i guess thats the next thing on the list

Re: HOW TO: Install Performace Pulleys

well drive around here with no A/C on and let me know how the power is doing you then.

Next on my list is FLX-60 from summit racing. just went up another $5 in price today but it's supposed to be the best thing besides pullies. I have Al's header for a 2000 with air that I'm never going to install. Took it out of the bubble wrap and looked at it. then i put it back.

Re: HOW TO: Install Performace Pulleys

I understand whatcha talking about with less bogging, its less noticeable

www.aspracing.com
www.truckperformance.com

More power=more money, if you can't afford, just save your $ and don't worry about it, you

for spending under $100 for 2 things to do

1. Efan(junkyard efan, autozone efan kit)
2. 56mmTB

I got efan for free + wiring kit of $30(adjustale stat kit)

56mmTB for $30

both are in sticky

ASP Pulley, mid-top end power, definitely worth the $ for me with mods, mpg increase was noticeable(5spd, reg cab, 98), but I notice more with little quicker rev

i think we misunderstood each other, i was asking about your TB spacer. (i DID write the sticky on the pullies )

i was asking if u noticed any more mpg gains from the throttle body spacer.

Re: HOW TO: Install Performace Pulleys

I just finished my install. You can also use the Goodyear Gatorback 6pk1805 (if you have A/C AND are using the alt pulley) which is about 1/2" smaller than what is suggested in the write up. I used the 1805 and the tensioner looks like it is in the exact same spot as it was when I had the stock belt on there.

I'll snap a few pics tomorrow and post em up for the guys who were requesting pics, even though that was like 3 months ago.

Re: HOW TO: Install Performace Pulleys

Any of you that already bought the upgraded pullies, can you measure the OD at the contact points? (on the grooves)
Also, how much for your stock pullies, shipped to 49646?
I'm going to try and machine a set of my own from aluminum. Stock pullies, I need to measure the offset, bolt pattern, and actual OD to determine the % numbers for over/under drive.

yea but if you look at his pictures of the pulley. you can see that it is a hallow one just like tha factory one.

and you dont NEED a alt pulley but it will help if you do. and you should be able to get one from the same place you got your crank pulley

no i know the cranks are prolly a different size and everything. im just saying mine looks the same as in one side is hallow like that. and i mounted mine the hallow side out cuz thats how the stock one is. and it worked just fine. so i figured that one was backwards

if i did install it the other way theres no way in hell i could ever get the belt to line up

that and the big hole has a lip that fits perfectly in the harmonic balancer hole (just like the stock pulley)

Re: HOW TO: Install Performace Pulleys

Reccomendation: 71.5" belt (3" shorter than stock) for a 98+ using A/C and the ASP crank pulley. A 72" (2.5" shorter than stock) would be better, but they're twice the price at Auto Zone.

Go shorter for the Crank/Alternator combo pulley set.
