I might just wait and save for a k&N or volant that will fit stock better than these.

That's on my 94, it fits, but I had to use a lil different elbow to make it work.

Re: ebay cold air intake install/review

Yes, but the filter is laying sideways, and it still isn't all of the way over where the old air box was. You might be able to tweak it and make it over there. If you don't have an a/c, it will be easier to do.

Re: ebay cold air intake install/review

haha...hell no, wouldn't spend that much for something i can get the same end result for way cheaper.

its called being efficient. lol..making something work with a little tweaking, its only a 2.2...

i stripped the paint off of mine today, with a wire wheel, it gave it that brushed aluminum look, goes with the finish of the other parts under the hood, so i might just keep it simple, and stick with it, i don't know, i'll get pics up of it though, soon.

You better get pics...LOL. I now have a full chrome intakes air intake that I no longer need, too bad its scuffed up a bit. Oh well, maybe I can find applications down the road for it.

Go ahead and waste your money but all you need to do is get an intake then add a GOOD air filter to it /done.

The fitment on this intake is perfect, at least on my truck it was. you might have to move the elbow out a little here or there to adjust for the A/C pulley but other than that its good.

Ok nevermind about this I got to looking and dont like the way they set at all and their cheap made. So then No matter how much shit yall talk about me in august I will get me a regular K&N intake since this is all they do and the plastic will stay cooler than the metal ones.

Ditto. I'm happy with my $60 purchase that fits fine, has a heat shield and gives me the same performance that any other kind of CAI is going to give me.

Re: ebay cold air intake install/review

Yea thats great because yours are for your year and model they dotn have them for mine. I also like the K&N version better becaus e3it blends in with the engine bay better and fits into place like the stock air box. You bought the intake you wanted so Im going to buy the one I want. Your intake looks great by the way but I would have to modify it to work on my 94.

Eh, easy mod, only have to purchase three parts and build a bracket. But yea, if i had the money, I would love the K&N, but I can't justify it myself being it won't make a difference and I'm broke. Have to get pics once you get it, I don't think I've ever seen a 2.2 with a K&N on it.

Re: ebay cold air intake install/review

I understand, I just couldn't justify myself spending that much. It is your truck and I definitely can say I have seen money spent in worse ways. But be sure to get some pics up when you get it in. I wanted to get one for myself for a few years until I got the one I have now.

Re: ebay cold air intake install/review

Nothing wrong to get with K&N or other popular name brand, just higher cost, although most of them aren't polished/chrome, so if anyone is looking for stock looking type of intake with excellent filter then it would be a way to go if you're more for look than performance.

I use K&N FIPK Gen. II more looks and blending in the bay keeping it stock looking than eBay intake.

Re: ebay cold air intake install/review

and since i'm in here, here goes pics of mine, with a pass thru with the wire wheel, on a bench grinder, to give the brushed look, i like how it compliments the other underhood pieces, with the same look, but i'm still undecided whether or not i wanna go with the black or not...

this first pic, is just a comparison of the finish, alongside the ac compressor...

and i have yet to bother doing a decent detailing under there...

Re: ebay cold air intake install/review

I've been sitting on the fence on getting a CAI as I don't drive over 3000 RPM if I can help it...anyway I like the price of the Ebay intakes but the quality seems sadly lacking... If your going to manufacture something like this and sell it- it should fit right without modifying..but that's the world of customization- I guess.

I happened to notice an ad at the top of this forum that said:
"Volant CAI Kit 25522 $99.00 Blowout Special"
When I went to the link it was $109. so I emailed them and they fixed the price to $99.

I went ahead and ordered one, I like the look and hopefully it will fit like it should. At this price I couldn't resist, hopefully it's not made in China- like the ebay ones.

Here's a link:

I'd buy it especially at that price. I would take the sticker off though.

BTW on these intakes the fitment is great its just that if you have a 94-97 truck you would have to modify to get it to fit. The 98+ trucks fit just fine, all it needs is a little adjustment here and there to clear the a/c better. it clears the a/c pulley without any adjustment but it was too close for my comfort.

They will fit with no problems, even the chrome intakes will fit, it just depends on which style you want and go with it. THey are both easy to install, hardest part may be getting the rubber piece over the throttle body, at least it was for me.

the chromeintakes uses a cheap bracket to hold on the intake. some have failed and the intake was chewed up by the a/c pulley.

on this intake it fits 98+ but the description was messed up.

Its not bad, I have one, and still do sitting on my floor, i never did figure out the bracket they send with it, so I made my own. But it works and gets the job done. I changed mine to the other style simply for looks. Where in Indiana are you? I will be back in IN at the end of this month.

I am in the huge city of Mt. Vernon lol about 7,500 people.
If you find evansville in the south west corner go about 20 miles west and theres MV. right where the ohio meets the wabash.
could you probably find a decent bracket at like autozone? did it work pretty good though?

Re: ebay cold air intake install/review

Honestly, adding a CAI doesn't change anything, it's a little noisier at WOT and looks better under the hood. As for performance, I don't notice a difference. It takes more than a CAI to make an engine powerful.

I'll be about 50 miles away from Mt. Vernon as I take I-57 north through Illinois.

Re: ebay cold air intake install/review

what is WOT?
and im probly gonna order one off of ebay.
also i know it takes more than a CAI to make an engine powerful... especially a 2.2L 4 banger. but every little bit helps and im also shooting for the mpg increase. I've got a k&n air filter right now and a cherry bomb turbo and tomorrow im gettin a high flow cat put on so im squeezin a bit more power out of iit.

Re: ebay cold air intake install/review

WOT-Wide Open Throttle. The CAI removes the built in silencer for the engine so you have more engine noise, I personally like it. Just remember, bolt on's don't add anything at all, our engine is small enough that the stock components don't decrease it's stock potential, the main things that will give a little bit of difference are electric fan, underdrive pullies, new headers and then you have to start doing internal mods to make a difference. I've heard the header is the most restrictive part of the exhaust, so if you're really wanting gains from exhaust, the manifold needs replaced.

Re: ebay cold air intake install/review

i feel an increase...nothing rediculous...but i also changed out my old corroded ass muffler right around the same time, so i'm sure between the intake, and a new muffler, it opened it all up alot, compared to what it was.

Re: ebay cold air intake install/review

You might feel an increase, i'm just saying it won't be that big of a difference. As most of the CAI claim 7-15 increase in horsepower, yea right. The only way to know for sure is to dyno, and most people never have dyno testing.

Re: ebay cold air intake install/review

Increase Noticeablity, yes.

Enough to recommend every single person, no.

Although, it IS easier to remove/install than stock which makes the work time short, it's still better than stock but isn't much improvement since 2.2L don't make so much power as is.

i swapped out for the simplicity of it, it definately cleaned up my engine compartment, and if it saves a mpg here and there, it'll eventually pay for itself, i suppose...plus it sounds pretty damn cool. especially with a stick shift....(the option racing one, anyway)

I will agree with you there, and the sound was the same for both...at least for me. I do love it for simplicity and cleaning up my engine bay, although i've added things to make it clustered again. I like them for pure looks though, and it's nice when it floods around here, I know my intake is higher than some people's.
