Re: Cold Air Intake?worth it?

i got a k&n off here for a good deal. guess its worth it. saves gas and you can feel the power it makes when you first drive with it......then you just forget about it.

good point
your best bet is to get a cheep one off ebay or make your own. K&N's and AEM's are great products but for the 2.2L ebay intakes do the same thing. no diff in power.

Re: Cold Air Intake?worth it?

Yo, I just ordered my air intake from E-bay, I'll be getting it this Wednesday. I got it for $50 shipped, its brand new. Do a search on E-bay. Find the air intake thats Buy it now for $29.99, Its a full system. Shipping is $20 and the name of the company is Liveonspeed. I'll post again when I recieve it, and the info when I install it. I did a week of research looking for a air intake for my 1998 2.2, and this was the best deal I've found on Ebay. If you want thier direct phone # just ask me and I'll give it to you.

Re: Cold Air Intake?worth it?

yeah the only diff between the K&N and all the others.......the k&n is straighter....goes over ac comp.....the others bend around it. only thing i could see as different is the path of air.

Re: Cold Air Intake?worth it?

Thats a nice intake but is not a cold air intake. The power "increase" is more in your heads. You still get a few extra HP due to much smoother routing, lower air temps, and higher flow filter. The MAF will only let so much air in the engine.

What did you make that intake out of ABS or PVC?

For everyone else: which is a better material to build an intake out of because? I heard that when PVC gets hot it gives off this chemical thats bad on the engine.

Re: Cold Air Intake?worth it?

it don't matter, where the filter is at is same for every kind intake there is, just difference from tubing to materials to whetever it comes wit heat shield or not, whether c.a.r.b. approvd(some state require c.a.r.b. apprve for visual examination) or not etc

I have a 95 2.2. Bought parts from Autozone to do this. Cost $60 or so in parts...ITS SIMPLE. Just get the intake pipe, some black accordian hose and a filter...as my intake manifold was oval in shape and not round (focking wierd)....Ill take pics this weekend, but I wont be back online till Monday.

Re: Cold Air Intake?worth it?

k&n the best. it comes with a heat shield. dont get one without the heat shield. it will just pull hot air from the engine and give you LESS HP than stock. get the heat shield

how the hell do you figure that since it breaths so much better than stock I guess we are just drownding it with to much air

because a stock intake pulls air from behind the headlight with a box around it. hot air cant get in to the intake system. when you put an open element filter on it it can get HOT air from the engine. which robs horsepower. an engine drawing hot air will not run good. this is why k and n incorporated the heatshield. to prevent hot air from entering the airstream. thas why its a COLD air intake. what good would it be if it pulled hot air??

but the stock intake uses a box on top of the rad that heats up the air and don't flow worth a shit. I agree that one with a heatsheild is better but not 200 dollars more better

Re: Cold Air Intake?worth it?

While I agree that haveing a Cold Air Intake is better than an Ambient Air Intake under the hood, The K&N setups are not exactly cold air, They do come with a heat shield that will help keep the air a bit cooler than what is under the hood but they are by no means true cold air intakes. Heck vs spending the 200.00 bucks for the K&N take the 150.00 you have left and fabricate you an L shaped piece to serve as a heat shield. I have purchased the FIPK once before and honestly It was not worth the cash at all. I'd make my own for sure.

yes but the air that is on top of the radiator is not there for more than a fraction of a second and thas not enough to heat it up to the temperature of the air directly in contact with the block of the engine. a heat shield is still your best bet. if you dont want to pay 200 for a kandn, buy a cheap one or make your own. if you make your own then theres nothing stopping you from making a .50 cent peice of metal for a heat shield. it will be worth it in the long run

Re: Cold Air Intake?worth it?

o boy, if ya'll worry for cold air intake, just put a hole on hood wit intake stickn out, or stuff dry ice all around intake n ull c some improvement.........on hot day, I don't see y shud use cai on 2.2 its basically same as any other intake just diff. look, n yes cheaper to make 1 yer own, ya cud compare cold air intake to k and n......results........same, unless u modify where tubin goes to under the truck, then u gotta think aain cuz it takes long time for air 2 travel cuz intake further away from engine. this is basically daily driven not track driven so its difference is probably none but cud measure temp. near TB and compare 2 other intake, I wudnt be surprise if its same but it depends on the atompshere/temperature so gittn the right result will take time 2 be sure. beside those livin in 45* or colder, air intake is cold nuff as is, I mean ya'll cud make more hole openin for more intake flow, I done that, n well not really worth it but hey kills the time

Re: Cold Air Intake?worth it?

just sayn if goin w/ cai or regular intake setup, pretty much same hp/tq results and difference from cai and regular intake on 2.2 is pretty much similar on different tubing route, don't see y its calld cai since on cai where filter is at is same area where my filter is at just different material......as for dry ice method, at track/drifting competition some drivers put alotta dry ice all around the bottom of intake so when it suxs air n air goes thru dry ice n gits cold when goin thru intake, make sense now?
