Cavalier 2.2 vs. S10 2.2

I know this is a dumb question but just wanna double check. Is the cavalier 2.2 the same as the S10 2.2. I'm starting a turbo build and i was hoping to get my buddies cavalier motor. Will it work? Are the mounting holes different because its a front wheel drive, while the truck is rear wheel? Thanks for the help. Keep an eye out for my turbo build.

There may or may not be holes for the motor mounts, watch out for them.

It should be the same except for the head i believe. you can make it work but it cant remember what it is...has something to do with the water passageway.

but 100% the block is the same. as long as you are not going from a 97 cavi to 98+ i think.

Re: Cavalier 2.2 vs. S10 2.2

I've got a 95 s10, and the motor i think is a 99. I will be using a stage 3 head so that's not the issue. i just want to know if the bell housing for the truck will bolt up to the cav. motor.

There are two versions of the 2.2 that come in our trucks, 94-97 and 98+. You may have an issue there since the design of the motor was changed.

It will work but you need to install parts from a rear wheel drive on the cavi engine. Head and block are the same.

Re: Cavalier 2.2 vs. S10 2.2

It's a hard to find thread but it contains all the info you need.

http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f105/2...-pains-321784/

The blocks were almost identical minus the addition of the cam position sensor in 1996. There is also a difference in lifter guides from 1995 to 1999 but you will be ok as long as you use the guides that came with the engine. The big difference is the crank. You will not be able to use the '99 crank with the '95 ECU as the timing marks are advanced 0.450". The heads are also very different from '95 to '99.

Your right the water passageway on a cavi is on the sides. Youll notice there is a freeze plug installed right where the neck that holds the T-stat bolts to the head. You'll have to hit that in the corner with a punch to get the plug to turn then grab it w/ some plyers and she will come right out.
Thats all i know about the head cause i got a new head and it came setup for a cavi. As far as the motor swap knows see what everyone else says.
