Anyone else's header glow?
The exhaust manifold never glowed. Drove for 3 minutes test driving the header and the thing looks like a lava lamp. Any ideas?

Re: Anyone else's header glow?
a header will glow if EGT's are high, due to running lean or retarded timing, just because the header is glowing isnt always a bad thing. Stainless headers always glow ( about 600* EGT and higher ) but steel i believe takes about 800 or 900 to start to glow. You normally dont see it on a N/A motor, usually a turbo were EGT,s are high ---like 900 to 1200. We dyno our race WRX and watch the header, turbo housing and down pipe glow like a B--ch!
What are AL's headers- steel or stainless-- esp. if not coated |

Re: Anyone else's header glow?
Well after the first test drive, I drove about three miles from my house, and popped the hood. The first thing I see is a bright red Al's Header. I adjusted the thermostat so the electric fan kicks in at a lower temp. and put the thing up on a lift. Flext pipe is torn just below the flange.

Re: Anyone else's header glow?
you torn flex pipe is what is allowing it to get soo hot. its letting in air and oxygen and that is basicly suoer heating the header. you see this more with cat's and having a leak around the cat causing is to blow out.
