Re: 96 s10 2.2 oil capacity and type

they dont mess up gaskets. synthetic is a smaller molecule than normal oil so where normal oil cant leak out synthetics can.
i run synthetics on my truck and i ran it in my old car. i had a small oil leak before i switch to synthetics on my truck but i ran it for 60k miles(100k-160k) in my old car and never had an issue with it.

i use penzoil platinum (4 quarts) with the ACDelco PF51 filter.

yes austin thats what i heard also, and i put synthetic in my 96 2.2 also with no leaks at all,and after i put the synthetic like 5 days later my main seal started leaking..they told me that the synthetic oil was the cause....so i will never use synthetic on my high mileage 96 again...

you can always try synthetic and if it leaks just switch back. but its your truck and its all up to you.

shoot my truck has 183k on it and i switched at 182k to synthetic and have had no issues, its not the first time ive switched a high milage car over and have had no issues. synthetic anymore wont ruin seals or gaskets. if one went out afterwards it was gonna go out anyways synthetic or not.
