Re: 2.2 Growing pains
He is asking since the wiring harness in his truck is for a 96 could he take a 98 motor and put the 96 head, intake, and fuel delivery system on the 98 block and put it in the truck to still use the 96 wiring harness and computer? Or will the newer block effect his cluster gauges?

Re: 2.2 Growing pains
some guy did it but had problems....you'll need a 98 head atleast....the combustion chamber is different in 98....so are the pistons.....and crank
its all on page one Last edited by Chris0nllyn : 05-12-2009 at 06:11 PM. |

Re: 2.2 Growing pains
He has a whole 96 motor, head, intake, everything. Also has a whole 98 motor, head, intake, everything. Needs to know what has to be done to put the 98 motor in a 96 truck while still using the 96 computer, wiring harness. I'm thinking intake, fuel delivery but I don't know for sure. It's kinda hard to tell from page one what will have to be done.

Re: 2.2 Growing pains
the 98 computer is setup for different ignitions...thats why the crank is different...itll be such a pain to put a 98 motor in a 96 truck

Re: 2.2 Growing pains
so it will be easyer to get a 98 wire harness and rewire the 96 s10 ... or just find a 96 motor

Re: 2.2 Growing pains
it'd be easier to just get a 96-97 motor

Well, thanks for adding the info on here, it was certainly interesting - putting it mildly.
Since you seem to have a lot of info on the 2.2 I thought I might as you a question that I've been trying to find for who knows how long :) I have a 96 s10, 2.2l, 5-speed manual, etc. And I was wondering if you knew of a Distributor-type ignition that'd be compatible with the 96's Crank-sensing ignition setup? If so, would you happen to know which distributor that could fit it? And finally, if you don't know of any stock parts that can be used, I was wondering if you know of any aftermarket setup that'll provided the same results? Any info you could provide on this topic would be very much appreciated. thank you :) |

Re: 2.2 Growing pains

Re: 2.2 Growing pains
what about a mega squirt ecu ? then you could run whatever engine you could find,on the cheap ?and utilize GM censors for a "bolt in" affair on a stock whatever year engine,or you could run an EDIS system (ford pulley mount crank trigger/coil pack)and do a custom FI setup with UNLIMITED BOOST POTENTIAL !!!.Then alls that would be necessary is a laptop/wide band o2 for tuning.
