1999 S-10 2.2 5 speed mpg help

I just picked up this truck, reg cab it's got a 2.2 and a 5 speed. The motor is blown so I will be putting a motor in it. I have a set of e-fans out a buick century, I plan on doing the throttle body change. Do the underdrive pulleys really work? Which are the best ones for the buck? What else can I do to get the best mpgs out of this truck other than driving normal tune up etc. I searched and came up with what I have here just seeing if there's anything else out there. What kinda numbers should I expect?

ASP pullies. I got slight mpg improvement but definitely mid-high rpm increase. You can check the sticky for further info, install and dyno.

You're already on good path for inexpensive mods to get better power and mpg out of it. It'll depend if you want to spend some more or you're satisfied as is.

Re: 1999 S-10 2.2 5 speed mpg help

highflow cat
2.50 tubing to muffler
eletric fan
ported throttle body
plugs/wires
215-65-15 tires
intake

1995 s10 with new motor 5-speed, not driving conservative at all, 90% city stop and go. 20 mpg on fill up and i ran the a/c.

Don't forget that you have larger tire and your speedo is off which means you have 20+.

Re: 1999 S-10 2.2 5 speed mpg help

the tires are 205/65/15 on there now. My plans are the cold air intake, throttle body, pullies, e-fans, new 02s, tune up. And then I'll take it from there once the motor's in

My speedo is like dead on. Tires are pretty small, and he is running factory size.

Re: 1999 S-10 2.2 5 speed mpg help

stock 205-75-15:
sidewall - 5.6
size - 26.3

215-65-15
sidewall - 5.5
size - 26

Just for referance. Our tires are almost the same size, very close, so kinda gives you an idea, something to compare to. Hope this helps.

just so i have this straight. the first number is the tread width? the second is the sidewall height? or the persentage versus the treadwidth? and of course the third is the wheel size.

set me straight if im wrong.

Re: 1999 S-10 2.2 5 speed mpg help

in my 2000 with e-fan, pullies, headers, high flow cat, flowmaster, and 56mm TB im still getting the same mileage as before all the mods. About 20ish city or depending on driving (city/highway mix) anywhere from 260 to 300 to the tank (14 gallons at fill up). If its all highway ive surpassed 320 miles to the tank before.

You should be getting higher, I get 35-40 on highway. Few times I went over 40mpg on flat highway going 55-60mph.

Helgaiden, have you done any tune-up? Likely you'll need o2 sensor as above said. Just Bank 1 on the header.
