Starting issue, turnover won't fire, maybe fuel pump?
I have 1989 s-10 cameoEl, The truck will turn over but will not fire. I have spark but the truck just wont start. I believe it is the fuel pump. Is the fuel pump located above the gas tank, electrical, mechanical?
Any imput will help. Thank you very much! |

Re: Starting issue, turnover won't fire, maybe fuel pump?
In tank, try a shot of carb cleaner in the intake and see if it fires up, if it fires up then you have a fuel issue. Check the fuel pump relay.
Can you hear the pump run? Bang on the bottom of the tank with a rubber mallet or your fist, see if it will run/ fuel after that. There should be a prime connector on the firewall near the battery junction (passenger side), you can supply 12v there if you suspect the relay is bad to verify the pump is either bad or good/ will or will not run. If the pump is weak and you try the carb cleaner it may start and run fairly normally. It would probably require another shot next time you want to start. |
