power steering info check it out
ok im woking on putting powersteering in my bare bones dime 2.5 and ive come to realize anyone lookin for the oem powersteering bracket can probably find one very easy, its the same bracket used for any 2.5 with a/c you need the aluminum bracket that bolt to the motor. you'll notice that it has a spot near the bottom with a half moon cut into it and three small threaded holes top bottom and middle of the half moon, now that where you will be able to mount the pump. now on my particular conversion i am using this bracket which i found on ebay here is a link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...263036365&rd=1
and i am also using a 2.2 l powersteering pump which comes with the hoses needed if you get from s10warehouse out of florida also a major supplier on ebay i also purchased a power steering box to complete this conversion from them for under 50 bix not a zq8 trust me ill be happy enough just to have it at all lol. well so far this is what im up to and i hope it will help others in thier conversions ill be ready to complete my conversion by the end of the week just waiting on the bracket and steering box, but i will keep everyone updated with it and ill post pics once finished the only thing i havent figured out yet is usually powersteering systems have a wire connected to the pump somewhere and im not sure but i dont think this pump has one but it kicks the idle up alittle while turning the wheel when stopped so the engine doesnt stall. where im stumped is where does it get hooked up on the trucks harness???? so any imput is appreciated as long as its constructive and not a bunch of mindless bashing thanks |

Re: power steering info check it out
there is a dark green wire going to the ac off of the ECM, I think it is for the idle advance on the AC, might be able to use that to bump the speed up (I think that is what it is used for) probably would need a couple diodes to keep one from messing with the other? I dunno.

Re: power steering info check it out
might check into the green wire with a voltmeter and see how it is activated (grounded/ brought high) and you might need some blocking diodes so you dont activate the compressor when the bump up kicks in.

Re: power steering info check it out
ok so i have completed my powersteering conversion and this seems to be the most simplified way to adding powersteering to your 2.5 i will prove a link that will show you what the barcket looks like that you will need and i will be adding pictures to show you how well this mounts up. first i purchased a powersteering pump with high pressure hose from a 2.2l the nice thing is the resivour is mounted right to it that was purchased from s10warehouse in florida i also purchased a powersteering box from them out of a 2gen s10 pick ur poison they all fit i went for the regular box not the zq8 cause after not having any that was perfect. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=006&sspagename=STRK%3AME WN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=160263036365&rd=1
next i remover the dumby powersteering bracket that current on all 2.5 if its a bare bones s10 this is a pic next i mounted the 2.2 powersteering to the 2.5 bracket whick was a perfect fit because the 2.2 and 2.5 share the same pump itself heres some pics after that was complete i mounted everything in the truck which once again was a perfect fit and i was able to reuse my original belt after the powersteering was in place i swaped out the manual box for my powersteering box and connected all my line now withthe newer s10 they have a cooling line so you will need to get one from your locale junkyard that can come from any year s10 and the what motor is in it doesnt matter cause it only mounts infront of the radiator. here is a pic of the finished product belt in place and air intake tube in place. now i know there was a green wire talked about earlier in this tread now i didnt see a pressure switch on the pump or the steering box so i just skiped that part i dont have any idle surge and the truck does not want to stahl out at full lockleft or right. hope this helps everyone who wants to add powersteering to thier 2.5 oh and the bracket used is the same bracket used to mount the a/c pump so if you can find a 2.5 with a/c in the bone yard thats the bracket your gonna need its made out pf aluminum. |

Re: power steering info check it out
Do you have a picture of where the stock PS Fluid Resovoir mounts in the engine compartment of a 2.5L engine? I, too, am installing PS on a 2.5L engine without AC.
Thanks. |

Re: power steering info check it out
He said the tank was integral to the pump in his previous post. (which is what I remember.)

Re: power steering info check it out
well if you plan on using the oem a/c and powersteering mount then your best bet is to use the 2.2l power steering pump and steering box, they bolt right up and everything worked out well with my conversion. hope your turns out as good as mine did. i have pictures in my previous posts that show how everything mounted up.

Re: power steering info check it out
My P/U the previous owner pulled the compressor off and stuck a P/S pump on the bracket to take up the slack in the belt. I dont know what the pump was off of, but IT does not have a tank on it.

Re: power steering info check it out
great info on the 2.2 pump. that sure beats the remote reservoir the stock p/s pump uses. what year 2.2 pump did you use? or are they all the same? I have a 95 donor truck i can rob the pump and steering box from if it will work.
