For God's Sake DON'T buy a rebuilt Code E motor...the much better, later model, Code A motor probably costs the same for a rebuilt. 13 additional horsepower, over the hp put out by the Code E motor. You will need some junk yard parts to get the benefit of the extra ponies. If you can swing it, buy the Code A Long-block, complete...the engine you want is the L-38 HO motor...1991 to 1993...buy it locally, for the warranty, from a local re-builder.

Re: LOOKING FOR SHORT BLOCK FOR 1987S15 2.5l

Are you looking for a long block to get rebuilt or do you want one that runs?

Rockauto.com has remanufactured 2.5 long blocks for about $1500 shipped, and then about a $2-300 core.

If you get a new block though and do the work yourself, rebuild parts are about $3-400 plus machine work.

So far, with the two places around me I have been to, the prices seem a little over the top compared to just buying a reman engine. I really didnt think a place would charge $3k just to rebuild a motor but this is the first time Ive looked into this.
