hmmm..
I wonder if this chip modder would be so kind as to let you really know what programming he actually changed?? I mean, to let you know BEFORE you spent any money.. Most of them (that I have fooled with) REQUIRE Premium Gas because the chip has modified timing advance tables built into it and the use of Regular Unleaded gas makes the engine ping and knock like crazy...in both instances, when I used them, I wound up switching back to the OE chip and looking elsewhere for a boost...like the 180* t-stat, CAI, and more base timing... |

Re: hot chip
cooler stat might help with the pinging with regular or mid grade gasoline and the chip.

Re: hot chip
k so heres the update on the chip i got one today and installed it and took it for alil ride to the bank. the truck instantly feels like it will get out of its own way now and is very peppy, now i know the ecu will take a few days to relearn the new program and it will get alil better as far as the increase in fuel mileage that is claimed idk yet i do have a full tank so i will keep you posted with mileage.

Re: hot chip
BTW, how did you remove your computer to change the chip? I don't want to break anything trying to find the numbers on it for the guy at hot-chip's.

Re: hot chip
just unscrew the one bolt that holds it in, pull it down from the dash and look on the computer for the number, and to get to the chip, unscrew the 2 bolts on the little cover plate.....

Re: hot chip
I've had the chip in mine for about 3 months and it's the best investment i've put into the truck. i'm running mid grade 89 octane and it's getting 24-26 mpg hwy where it used to get 21-23 - you can put the 180 degree thermostat and run regular 87, but so far so good with the 89 octane. Where before on the hwy if i was cruising at 65-70 and wanted to go around somebody , i'd have to down shift to 4th and nail it, i now just give it more gas , it'll run 80-85 all day with out hesitating now.

Re: hot chip
I've been running the chip for years, when I got mine they were only $70.00, next to bigger cam it was my best mod hands down.

Re: hot chip
FYI, I just talked to Brian, and the '92 and up chips will no longer be made because of lack of demand. He also plans to discontinue the other years once he runs out also, so get em while they're still available.

Re: hot chip
So I race an automatic 2.5 as some of you may know and I get told I am an idiot for it but as of tonight I ran 3 tenths of a second slower than the leader until I hit the wall. But anyways I purchased one of these chips and it didn't do anything to make the truck faster. My time was the exact same with no change in anything. Lol I may get better gas mileage but no faster from the chip. I did get a pretty big gain from unplugging my o2 sensor because I was running lean. Hopefully this chip just takes a while to show its potential. The guy selling is a very nice guy to deal with.
