Continously running fuel pump

From the sound and constant draining of my battery, I've deduced that, for some reason, the fuel pump is not shutting off, even with the ignition off. I'm assuming that something tells the pump to run for a few seconds to prime the system when the ignition is first keyed on. Anyone have any thoughts as to what would cause this?

Re: Continously running fuel pump

Mine done the same thing replaced the fuel pump relay and it still ran all the time. Turned out to be a wire from my oil pressure sending unit had laid on the manifold and shorted out. From what I understand the current for the fuel pump is supplied through the opsu

The fuel pump relay is a priming device for the fuel system and will also engage after the engine starts, the Oil Pressure switch can go bad and keep the pump running (my 88 van would run for a min after shutting off untill I ran some cleaner thru the system.)

Hrmmm.. So if my oil pressure switch is bad my fuel pump will an can stay on for a few seconds ( seconds for my case ne way) after the truck is already off.Thats good to know cause my trucks pump def. stays on for a few seconds after I turn it off an I know for sure that the oil sender doesnt work right.

Yup, I could turn off, get out, and be 1/2 way to the house before it quit, I ran some seafoam through the crankcase and it has ceased doing so. I reccomend the seafoam at your own risk tho....
