The '88 Fiero was/is a "last year of the type" and as such it is much more valuable to leave it 100% stock, with the "correct" vin number motor in it.

It is a true collector car and, IMHO, your money and time is better spent bringing it back to Original, rather than hot rodding it.

If you are hell bent on stroking an Iron Duke for it, and have questions about if a Code R will fit, then you need to do a little detective work. Begin by comparing (side by side) the head gaskets (Code R vs. OE). That will show the cylinder bore centers and how they compare. Then compare the Code R to a Code A, looking for oddities...
