is it absolutely necessary to replace the radiator or can is just frowned upon? is it clearance issues, cooling capabilities, etc. thanks.

Re: why couldn't i just use my stock radiator?

The 4.3 radiator in GOOD shape will cool decently. I'm running my stock radiator on my L31 swap(for now) just to save a few bucks and get it moving.

Re: why couldn't i just use my stock radiator?

mine stays cool...i have a vortec 350, and just moved the stock rad up and got a 160 t-stat...i also have electric fans from a 99 intrepid and they do wonders, if their on full time the truck doesnt even reach opperating temp if its idling, found that out when i had them hook up to a toggle switch when i was testing them lol

Re: why couldn't i just use my stock radiator?

if its a 4.3, you can use it as long as you dont beat the v8 too hard, many people around here still use theirs, but if its anything else then you need to change it, because they wont be able to cool it

Yeah 4.3 rad. will cool it pretty good in florida heat in the middle of the day,but it also depends on your fan setup.

Re: why couldn't i just use my stock radiator?

You don't need a 4.3 radiator but more surface area = more air to go through the radiator and cool the hot coolant.

Re: why couldn't i just use my stock radiator?

i bought a brand new corvette radiator and when i cut my radiator support out to slide it in i kinda almost flatten the top three layers of my radiator.

i hope it still cools cuz that thing was expensive.

what lower hose are you guys using with the vette radiators

Re: why couldn't i just use my stock radiator?

I am doing a 350 swap right now and wanted to put in a 87 corvette radiator. But i also wanted to know about what lines will and wont fit with the vette rad. And so what did you guys do about the lines you had to replace such as where you bought them and etc.

what hard lines?

the trans cooler lines will fit fine
the vette rad does not have oil cooler lines

this is assuming you used the 89 era vette radiator

Re: why couldn't i just use my stock radiator?

The reason they sometime work and sometimes don't is that s/10's come with various thickness radiators IMO.

Just measure your stock 4.3 radiator. If the core is 3/4" inches or less you could probably get away with it in a cool area or lo-po engine.

A 1 1/2" thick core 4.3 stock radiator usually handles the job fine with the correct fans in my experience.

But the problem i see is its got platic and its to thin for out four wheeling or just pussing around on the beach but if it not a 4x4 i dont see a problem in les you plan on drag racing so theres all kinds of radiators for diffrent apps so it all up to what you do i live in astoria Oregon so it all woods, hills, mud, rocks and sand so i tend to sepend a lot of time off road and i used a 4.3l radiator for two months and id does work on the road but not to well in my case. im not trying to step on any ones toes but do alot of thanking about what you want to use it for
