What Balancer With 383 Stroker?

Does anyone have a 383 stroker LT1? and if so, what harmonic balancer did you use? does it require external or internal balance? problem is, i believe the 3.75 stroke cranks are external balance but noone makes a external balanced LT1 style balancer : / lemme know asap thx.

383 strokers use the balancer off of a 400sb

Why wouldnt you use the 400 balancer? Use the one from the donor car or just pick one up new

Have it all ineternally balanced.

Drop your balancer/pistons/robs/crank/flexplate or flywheel off to a good machine shop and tell them you want it balanced.

Depending on how much they have to add/remove it should cost anywhere from 125- Iv seen it as high as $700 with a shitty scat crank that needed 7 mallory plugs.

but Its the ONLY way I build a motor.

use an aftermarket harmonic balancer like a rattler etc. The stock balancer from a 400 isn't a good idea. Its not designed for the internals of that motor. Aftermarket balancers have the ability to adapt to any harmonic disturbences

Hmm well if it is a 383 it is a 350 block /heads with a 400 crank why is it not made for that motor? If you get it all balanced together it will be fine. This will save you a few dollars anyway.

I don't think a regular old school balancer is the same as an LT1 balancer, that's where the problem lies.....

Yes James you are correct, i found out the LT1 sytle stroker cranks use the same 350 type snout making use of the 'stock' style 350 balancer. Which is defferent from all other engine types and balancers in that the pulley grooves are cut directly into the balancer. I ordered one up and everythings at the machine shop with the flexplate getting balanced. Thx for the input guys.
