Vortec head #'s...

My dad has a chance to get a 2002 vortec short block from a van and also could pick up the heads for a couple hundred more.... Can anyone tell me which heads were the good vortecs vs. the ones that aren't as good - by part number?
I think I heard to stay away from '906 versions as the seats were different and flowed poorly compared to the other versions - and were mainly found on the 2500 series trucks - but I would like some confirmation if this is true and which numbers were considered the 'ones to get'... if anyone has any experience with them!

Carcraft made a statement that one was better than the other(hence the rumor), but later retracted the statement. They are both excellent heads....

The 906's are the the ones I have and I was proly right about 400 hp.

Checked everything I could about the CarCraft site and came away with no answers as to which ones are the better. I do know now that '059 and '093's are apparently small valve heads (1.88 or so) and that the '060's are very good, but I was looking for info on the '062 and '906's to see why they were or weren't different or recommended as I had heard earlier...
There apparently were quite a few variations along with 305 versions, of the Vortecs and I am trying to get as much info to arm myself before commiting to try and buy a pair - to ensure I get ones that are useable without srewing around with them much. As I stated earlier I heard the 906 versions were poorer flowing and didn't work as well as the '060 / '062 versions - due to the bowls and seat areas directly under the valves!!??

The van wont have the 12558062 those heads were only made in 1998. Both heads are the L31 Vortec's they both have 170cc intake ports, 1.94int and 1.50exh valves, and 64cc combustion chambers. You most likely have the 906's unless it is a Gen III votec, if it is you proly have the 12559895.

I have read lots online lately trying to answer some of my own questions about these vortec heads but I have yet to find out very much regarding the '906 versions that don't crap all over them - verses the '062 versions. I suspect the 5.7 I will get to pull heads off will prove to have the '906 types as some have alluded to, and I feel that they aren't the best types to get based on much of what I have read...
I would like to find out more about statements and/or comments regarding the '906 casting versions that you say apparently had uncomplimentary comments regarding their efficiency, retracted or explained. If you have access to any links that would shed more light on this issue and tell more about the '906's as equals to the others (including the '062's) I would appreciate finding out more, as I can't seem to find much myself... --Kevin--
