v8 s10s.... how fast?

Hey guys I was wonderin, ive got a 95 x cab thats fixin to get a v8 of some kind not really sure what yet but are these things capable of being pretty fast or should I not even bother and build a camaro or something? thanks

I've got a 89 IROC with a 350 and I've also got an S-10 that in the next year will get the V8 treatment. If I had to chose between the two, I would much rather have the S-10 V8. I like the idea of having a sleeper that nobody will expect. Also, people are always trying to race me when I drive the Camaro..gets annoying. Wouldn;t you rather chose the races you want. Lol, if you've already got the truck, I'd pack as much HP in there as you can and enjoy it.

DAANG man that fast enough for me! lol I already have the truck it s a 2.2 right now so its SLOW what the best bet as far as motors for performance as well as reliability?

It will go as fast as you want it to go, depends on how much you build up the motor, i personally like the S10 over the camaro, no one expects it.

I just threw in a used motor w/some bolt-ons (intake+carb+headers+cam). I didn't expect to see better than a high 14/low 15. Spent some money on a rearend (for when i build a REAL motor), but otherwise I went cheap.
My favorite thing is when somebody picks a race with me and gets mad when they lose - not to say I always win but some people can't stand getting beat by a P.O.S.

cool thanks guys ive had atleast 5 people tell me that it was a waste of time and money they all said it was alot of fun but that if you were gonna try to race it that the trucks just have no traction so it would just sit there and spin, any advice on that?

I am building a 350 for mine right now and am doing a budget build. I am also going to do a 2" drop in the front with spindles.

The more weight you have over the back tires and th better tires you have the better traction you will get. if you want serious traction get nice slicks or street slicks M/t's would be great.

also unfortunatly for me extended cabs have the majority of the weight toward the front of the vehicle and due to their length and cannot get the back tires to grab well. I have a 2.2 now and have trouble getting it to catch when I really wanna go.

Sorry to get off topic and hi-jack the thread...but how's the truck coming man? Haven't hollered at you in a while, my LS1 project's being a bish and im about to start work on the headers as soon as i get a bandsaw. Got the engine and tranny mounted up and my Denny's Nitrous Ready shaft came in about a week ago Got my header kit from ED too, man that dude likes to talk....ran my battery dead on my cell. He's a cool guy to do business with though and i wish i knew as much about headers as he does...he did share a wealth of knowledge over the phone though Im going to have to do my drivers side a little different than your's, i sat my motor a little too far back i think and my steering column is giving me a big pain.

Where did my S10 go?????

Mine hooks dead solid on 235/60's...1.51 60ft times too.

Mine dosen't hook up at all, but i have 205/60 tires i got for free and they were like new, no my back right is pretty bald now. I get burnout happy I wanna try out my buddies 235/45 18's Nitto 555 and see how it does for giggles. But I t wanna do a posi and some wider tires and it should do better, along with some traction bars.

How does going from a 4.10 to a 4.08 make any difference at all - it is an insignificant change in gearing, and what rear do you have that will hold a 33 spline axle?

LOL, I didn't wanna start a bunch of shit, but I was thinking the same also. I"ve never heard of a 4.08 gear.

Maybe it was a typo, and ment 3.08, but I don't see anyone purposely going down that much in gear. I could see stepping down to a 3.73, maybe a 3.55, 3.42,but not down to a 3.08. Not unless it was only for highway driving.

do you mean 3.08 rearend? i havent heard of 4.08 gears, if you do have 4.08 gears theres no way that they spin less than 4.11's.

Really even stepping down to a 3.73 from a 4.10 doesn't hardly make a noticeable difference...stepping down to a 3.08 would be pointless and you would turn a cammed small block into a dog off the line. Not to mention if you had anything larger than a 11" converter you would probably nuke the tranny due to the lower rpms causing the tranny to slip all the time. You can't run 33 spline axels in the stock rear because there isn't a carrier made to support 33 spline axels. Im running 33 spline moser's, but i also have a 12 bolt in my truck. Its possible that the setup may take a '03 up cobra in stock form, but it would be close...VERY close. I hate to call anyone out or jump on the bandwagon....but i'm calling b.s. too.

Where did my S10 go?????

im with you on that, the new cobras are crankin 390hp and probably grip better then the dime (ive never driven a v8 dime, but ive driven my uncles gt stang and it grips pretty well off the line), maybe cuz beat 1 or 2 cobras due to a terrible driver of the stang, but i dunno about 'many'
