Re: v8 s10 on a trip..How far??
Well it was about 25 miles and used 6.5 gallons.....Prolly not the best MPG.
BUT with the LT-1 that was in in I could get 140 miles on a tank with 13 gallons in it. I think the .56's in the rear do it in. |

Re: v8 s10 on a trip..How far??
Mine was a different animal than you guys are driving, but I'll share it anyway. When Mine still had the tbi 350(stock), 4L60, dana 44 front axle, 9" rear, about a foot of lift, 4:10 gears, and 35" tires, I drove it on a 950 mile round trip in January from 600 feet elevation to 4500 feet and back. I averaged 19.2 MPG, but I was VERY easy on it taking off and I was running 75 on the highway. Typical around town, highway, and occasional trailer pulling, it averaged 13-14 mpg.

I thought so too, I probably should have left it that way considering diesel is $4.69/gallon now.

Re: v8 s10 on a trip..How far??
Drive mine 150-200 miles several times every year. The closest track is 60 miles away. dson't really care about mileage usually, but last 200 mile trip I was getting 17-20 MPG. I don't know exactly how much (fuel gauge isn't working again) but I made it on one tank both ways, not filling it all the way, probably about 16-17 gallons. I drive to another track that is 160 miles away and have to fill up half way, but it's because of the traffic I have to deal with. The track that's 200 miles away is in the middle of Wyoming, so i can go 85-90 the whole way.

Re: v8 s10 on a trip..How far??
I'm putting an LT1/4L60E combo into my 95 Sonoma. LT1 is a 5.7L not 4.3L. The 4.3L V8 is the L99. It is similar to the LT1, but is not an LT1. Don't get me wrong. It's a great motor, and it would be cool to be able to keep the 4.3 badges for a truthful sleeper.
2fast4life: how do you fit 50 inch and 60 inch tires under a truck with 6 inches of drop? The 9C1 (police package) Caprice that my motor and trans came from is rated 21 to 29 mpg. It had 3.08 gears and weighs almost twice what the Sonoma weighs. I'm going to keep the entire drive train and fuel injection of the caprice except the rear end. I am going with 3.08 gears though. I should get very similar numbers. I'm hoping to average around 25 mpg when it's complete. |
