V8 Question

Im trying to put a name to this part other then always saying where the oil filter screws onto, I need to get a different one for my 5.7l vortec v8, I need one that goes straight down not sideways like in the picture

now can i get this part from a 4.3l and would it fit right up to the v8 since they are essentially the same block just plus and minus two cyclenders?

Re: V8 Question

Nope the 5.7L vehicles used a different oil filter. So most likely it's a different thread or depth.

Re: V8 Question

crap, well then what do u think would be the best bet to look for to find one that goes straight down, even the stealership was saying i could prolly use one from a 4.3l but if u say it aint so then it aint, I know there was a 98 fullsize truck at the yard i was at lastweekend with the same motor as my truck that went straight down and didnt have the two lines for a oil cooler

Re: V8 Question

Well... If the dealership does say you can use it I'd trust them over me I'm not a parts guy at all. What filter does the 5.7 have?

Re: V8 Question

Hmm very well could be the same filter after all. I just talked to my dad and said there's a chance that the filter adapter piece with the oil cooler lines comes off and then you can take the little piece that the filter screws onto and put that into the block. This is something I never have even read about before haha.
