v8 + airbag options
so i have a 98noma and a 350 thats gonna be going in soon. Id like to put it on bags too but have some questions.
What bags to use first off, is the extra weight gonna cause any issues with what is normally run in the front? For the rear, what is the best setup? I wont be keeping the stock rear, fabrication isnt really a problem. Anyone on bags run at the track? Im not talking like every weekend going and beating the shit out of everything, but if I wanna go a couple times a year I dont want to have to worry about breaking stuff. (I dont know if there are any strange physics that will damage bag setups when taking off and whatnot) am i going in two totally opposite directions with bags and a V8? thanks |

Re: v8 + airbag options
it depends on what engine youre coming from, a v8 isnt -that- much more than a 4.3, but is obviously going to be way more than a 2.2
they say that for trucks with v8s you want a stiffer bag in the front, most (probably all) bags have more than enough weight rating for an s10 with a v8, so that isnt an issue im running slam ES-72's in the front and slam RS-72's in the rear, they say the ES's have a stiffer sidewall than the RS's do as for the rear setup, any link type suspension you choose to do will be light years ahead of a leaf setup, they transfer power better, hook better, and theres no axle wrap which means no wheel hop |

Re: v8 + airbag options
its a 2.2 with 4in(?) blocks in the rear, and short springs in the front.
I have been looking on the SD website and i haven notice those bags, so i guess they would have to be special ordered from somewhere. And I dont know if it would be better to get one of the pre-designed kits, or a universal one. |

Re: v8 + airbag options
the es and rs-72's arent special order or anything, theyre just an older model that isnt sold anymore, anything they have now is probably better

Re: v8 + airbag options
I've had a bagged v8 dime for a couple years now. I dont take it to the track but I have put alot of miles on it going to shows. I have slam re6's up front with shocks and a suicidedoors 3 link with behind/under the axle f9000 sleeves. Ive had no problems with the bags and v8. I have heard many good things about re7s in the front. So thats probably the only thing id change about my setup.

Re: v8 + airbag options
3 link.............. couldnt be happier with mine.... my ls1 truck actually hooks pretty well with a 3 link, bags, and street tires. As was said above, just about any bag will hold the weight

I was thinking about the 3 or 5 link, do you have a build thread or anything on your setup

Re: v8 + airbag options
Hey guys. My truck was originally a SS truck. Not sure how much of the suspension is stock, but it has 2 drop spindles in front for sure. I think they sway bars are "SS". I hate the ride on my truck (wheel hop mostly). My friend has a 98 2.2 truck. He has not been happy with his bag set up for a while. So I looked at what he had and there were no shocks and think that was most of his problem. He wants to put a 3 4 drop static suspension in. Until I got my truck he wanted to go back to stock. Well long story short he got talked into trading my ss static suspension for his bag set up. Now he has one bad bag up front already, so Ill have to replace that at least. and i figured on getting some drop shocks. I thought I might be have to buy new "heavier" bags up front. But it sounds like you guys are saying they might be ok. But if the only real money investment I have to put in is bags, Id like to have the best ride I can and make that dana hook as much as i can. So I guess my question is which bag is right for me?

Re: v8 + airbag options
One more thing I think he has srong arms up front and Id be swapping control arms, so what bags would be "compatable" w that also?

Re: v8 + airbag options
i didnt have time to read all the posts so i dunno if this has been said.
Bags - go RE7 or 2600 for sure, i had RE6s and it takes like 120psi to lift at all...it sucks. the rear link will help you reduce wheel hop the only issue i can think of its that you'll need some tubular upper control arms to clear the headers you'll need for the swap. I personally have headman shorty's, i dunno how long tubes work, this is the only experience i have with v8 and bags. have fun! bags are fun, and so are v8s so you'll absolutly love your truck after your done. I know first hand that all the work involved it SO worth it... |

Re: v8 + airbag options
RE7 bags own all other bags for the front, they have plenty of lift

Re: v8 + airbag options
Yea the SD will be yourbest bang for buck esp now that power performance is making the cross shafts for WAY cheaper. I got mine powder coated pink, but I think their trying to get away from the custom colors. They also come with ball joints for a little more. Ill find a link to my thread which also has some info on pcms
They clear theheaders just fine and I think their your only option for going on bags. However I've never tried longtubes Or the camaro manifolds that are supposed to work. |
