V8 4wd Sonoma
I got a high mileage '97 4x4 4.3 sonoma short bed regular cab. I also have a '87 c10 with a throttle body injected 350 v8 that has about 70k on it and runs mint. I dont really use the sonoma any more and it really isnt worth anything and i've been wonder how dificult it would be put the V8 in the sonoma and keep the four wheel drive. I'm new to the site, i searched but couldn't find anything on this type of swap. any advise is apreciated

Re: V8 4wd Sonoma
Real easy the ecu will plug right up. Use the tbi of the C10 it will mount and plug right into the ecm off the sonoma.
You will have to buy swap headers and oil pan , unless the V8 in the c10 is 4wd then you can use that oil pan. heres a site to browse and see parts you can buy for the swap. Allot of people use the vette rad but allot use the stock also,. O youll need electric fans also. http://www.s10v8.com/store/index.php...6e40a03c091c9d |

Re: V8 4wd Sonoma
Thanks, i want to try to keep it street legal... I live in Ma and the sonoma is Obd2 so i know it will need to be plugged in order to pass inspection. Anyone know wether or not it will have a problem as far as emisions go?

Re: V8 4wd Sonoma
I missed it was 97 sorry youll have to pull the wiring harnes and ECU out the C10 and wire it in.
Its illegal to put a older engine in a new car in most states . But most people dont even know what there looking at when they pop the hood. |

Re: V8 4wd Sonoma
Quick question pertaining to something like this, don't want to start another thread. If he wanted to right now with the 4WD configuration, could he put a Bravada transfer case in there to make it AWD?

Re: V8 4wd Sonoma
Yes he could. He would also need the front axle from the Bravada since it's designed to be engaged full time. Either the Bravada or the AWD Astro van parts would work.
To the OP, I highly doubt you'll pass emissions with that swap. I don't think it's legal to swap an older engine into a newer vehicle. Or, not OBD-II to OBD-I anyways... |

Re: V8 4wd Sonoma
i'm dont really care wether or not its legal i just want to make pass inspection, i'm trying to avoid VIN modification. What would it take to make it pass emisions if i got a 97+ 350? Where is everyone getting there ecu reflashed?

Re: V8 4wd Sonoma
places like Wait4Me, or PCMsforless, Current performance, ect.
should be able to re-flash your PCM with Vortec 350 programing while keeping the correct VIN# for your truck. wiring harness mods for the Vortec 350 are minimal. a couple extra injector circuits, and some wires will have to lenghtened several inches. Re: V8 4wd Sonoma
It should if all of the factory emissions equipment is used... i.e. cat. converters, etc..
