Re: Swapping? Heres A List Of Parts And Answered Questions!
After reading thru this whole thread I was able to find the answers I was looking for. Any chance of more people posting pictures. I have seen some swaps that were clean, and others that looked really bad. My 91 is needing rings, it starting to smoke, so this looks like a good time for an 8 swap, just happen to have an 88 camaro out back:thumbup:
And for anyone that is considering the swap that doesn't have a 4.3 now, you will have to change bellhousings, or trans, the 2.5, 2.8's have a smaller block, I went thru this with an 85 camaro, went from a 2.8 to a 350 with factory 5 speed, back when I did it, it cost a fortune and wasn't worth it. |

Re: Swapping? Heres A List Of Parts And Answered Questions!
Obviously if we do an engine swap, we have an engine left over, what's the resale value on a '98 70k Vortec 4.3L with no internal modifications? Just a removed Maf Screen UD pulleys and cut TB Plate? Like if i took it to somehwere, how much $$$ would i get

Ok unlike some of u. I am a mechanic for a living. I plan on puting a 406 which i have the short block already . 95 s-10 xtnd cab i think i put pics somewhere hell who knows i get lost in this damn forum. anyhow i honestly havent seen any second gen swaps i mainly am curious of clearence issues. i am going to make a front motor plate i got the earlier style headers which i think will work. being as such i used the earlier style spindles on it to drop it. Has anyone done this swap PICTURES would be nice. i will probably end up going the digital 6 ignition route with the small diameter distrubutor. I watched my neighbor do a ls1 into his 32 ford swap and what apain in the ass that was. so unless i can find the marine fuel injection that has the vortec heads on it very similar to the ramjet setup wif out the ram jet intake. very simple too no o2 sensor no emissions bs. I will go carb rather have injection being that already have the pump. etc but who knows. i am curious of one thing. the t-5 in it which i have put these behind small blocks etc and they seem to hold up. but i have done some modifyinjg tomake em fit. if i get a 4.3 bell housing well input shaft still line up etc. correct depth etc i am pretty sure this is the 14 spline input which i can get 88 astro van wif a 5 speed 11 clutch disc so thats covered. but i wanna use the factory clutch setup. master cylinder etc. and then when that blows up i am going 200 r4 not as low first gear. and not that aluminum drum that the 700's have. also lower over drive in the 200's anywayz if u got any input luv to hear it thanks. Oh anyone done any big brake setups on these. I wanna do 14 inch rootrs on front and 12-13 on back. which leads me to the last thing on my mind supposedly u can get an 8.5 rear out of some of these trucks. but finding this elusive creature has been a lesson in futility. is it zr-2 only or??? enough rambling for now...

Re: Swapping? Heres A List Of Parts And Answered Questions!
Hey everyone- Well i got my engine installed and and almost running thanks to this forum but i'm thinking i took a wrong turn somewhere. I had a 94 s-10 4.3 with CPI and i'm installing a 89 built 350 TBI with the 700R trans. Only thing i can't figure out how to get to work is the injectors on the TBI. Theres fuel pressure up to the TBI unit but they won't spray. The computer has power and when i bi passed the wires for the TBI the injectors sprayed. The only thing i can think of is that i missed a wire hook up or something somewhere for the computer. Another thing i was wondering is if the fuel pump was supposed to start pumping as soon as you turn the key before you start the vehical, and if it is would you be able to hear it. Thanks for ne help ne one can give me.

Re: Swapping? Heres A List Of Parts And Answered Questions!
I have seen a lot of talk about the older body style. Does anyone have any exprience with the 2000 or the years similar to that. I need to know what needs to be done to get the motor in there. The truck is a 2.2 5 spd. I can do just about anything. I do alot of GM swaps threw this site..... www.l67swap.com
this is the stuff i have questions on: motor mounts accessories drive shaft wiring PCM exhaust |

Re: Swapping? Heres A List Of Parts And Answered Questions!
Well what engine do you want to sawp in? Motormounts will depend on that. Also, as far as the accessories, it depends on where you want them mounted. If you'll be happy with the factory serp setup then that's gonna run ya about $750 w/ ac. Do you want to keep ac? Driveshaft may or may not need to be shortened depending on engine/trans placement and your choice of transmission. Wiring, are you going to stay efi or switch to a carb? Pcm, you'll need it from whatever vehicle you snag the engine from. If you go carbed I've found this site to me the best. www.ezwiring.com ...Exhaust is also dependant on wether or not you want ac. I've got hedman shorties on mine. Hate them with a passion. Collector leaks...flange on the driverside will not seal worth a damn either. I've looked into the high $$$ ones, but they exit fender well style, so if you're lowered with wide tires that ain't gonna work. Not to mention I am sure you could find a local shop to custom build a set for you. I am, and it'll cost me $750. Long tubes, 1 5/8 primaries and 3" collector with 3/8 flanges. All stainless steel. I'm probably gonna make this guy wish he hadn't quoted so low, as I was a custom fenderwell exit And I've notched the firewall already to give me the clearance |

Re: Swapping? Heres A List Of Parts And Answered Questions!
wow this post is long! anyways my dad has a gmc sonoma, i beleive its a 91, possibly 89.if i buy it from him later on i would want to swap in a 350. ive heard that you can use the stock tranny and radiator, and you also said that in the first post, i beleive. I was thinking about buying a gm crate engine package off jegs thats relatively cheap, (2000 or so) and includes the motor, an edelbrock performer intake manifold, an edelbrock 600 cfm carb a hei distributor and some chrome peices.i was just wondering what changes i would have to make to the wiring and computer? would i have to buy an all new computer/wiring harness if i chose to go carbuerated? how much could i expect to spend if i did have to buy those. i know you said that if you go carbuerated you have to get some kind of new gas tank epuipment? what exactly do you have to get and how much might that cost. thanks

Re: Swapping? Heres A List Of Parts And Answered Questions!
It has to be a 4.3L truck for the trans to "bolt" up. Don't mean its gonna hold up. That crate motor ur talking about..Is it the 260 or 290 hp version? If you go carbed, you take out the ecm and its wiring harness altogether. Factory wiring for everything else stays in place unless you feel the urge to redo the wiring completely. I doubt a 4.3L rad will keep it cool enough. Mine had the 84-86 Vette rad and 2 huge puller fans and 1 pusher. With a 190* thermo(I like to have use of defrost in the winter), it'd creep on up to 210 idling with all fans on. I'm looking into something a bit larger..while setting the engine back enough to use a engine driven fan. I dunno about the newer intank pumps and that sorta junk, as I had an 84 with a mech pump. Total cost on all this stuff..Every little nut and bolt included...$5000 easy. If you don't skimp and buy the right thing the first time.

Re: Swapping? Heres A List Of Parts And Answered Questions!
I've seen this asked, but not directly answered... do I need motor mounts for a 4.3 to 350 swap? and where can i get them, I've only managed to find 2.5 + 2.8 mounts for the swap.

Re: Swapping? Heres A List Of Parts And Answered Questions!
no get the 2.8 to 350 mounts(these are just brakets, peferably stealth mounts) then go to checker and buy some stock or poly 2.8 motor mounts(these are the actual rubber mounts) the 2.8 mounts are similare to vetee mounts and are way better than 4.3 mounts then do yourself a favor and buy the manuel they have picture and cover the details, they don't cover fuel injection too much but they do have modifactions for lt1-4 ls1-4...ect. it is reallly worth the $30 compared to how much you are spending on the swap

Re: Swapping? Heres A List Of Parts And Answered Questions!
I will be pulling the motor out of my 87 in about a week or two and when I do, I'll have to take some photos and measurements for all you guys interested in saving a few bucks. I always use stock 2.8 pads on the frame and I have my own mounts for the engine. the mount I run are made from a set of stock v-8 mounts that I modify. These mounts place the motor ahead 2.75", giving you proper clearance at the firewall with ABSOLUTELY NO MODIFICATION, you don't even have to roll the pinch weld! The distributor can be easily removed without tilting the motor (or notching the firewall), and still gives 2" of clearance from the rad to the fan, WITH the rad in the stock location.
As well, the motor sits low enough to clear a tall air cleaner or med rise intake + lowrise filter without the use of a cowl hood. Oh, and how's this for fit, if you use a 700r4 tranny, the mount will drop perfectly into the hole on the crossmember with, again, NO MODIFICATION or driveshaft cutting. I got peeved off with all these "kits" that have you cutting, beating, and "adjusting" for firewall clearance and then having you trying to figure out how much to remove from your driveshaft. |
