Re: Swapping? Heres A List Of Parts And Answered Questions!
I have a 01 blazer with the 4.3, I want to swap to a carb 350. In doing this will i run into any problem with wiring as far as taillights interior light, etc. Since the 350 does not have a computer, also is the tranny controlled by the computer?

Re: Swapping? Heres A List Of Parts And Answered Questions!
I am looking to make a swap also. I have a 92 single cab 2.5L 5 speed trans in a S10. I am wondering if there are any small block motor that will bolt up to my trans or do I have to get a different trans? I have been reading on here for days and cant find what I am looking for. I believe (from what I read on wikipedia) that I have the 2.5L TBI motor.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Iron...engine#Tech_IV Is this an easy swap or would it be easier for me to find a blown up 4.3TBI? Also does anyone know the code or name of the 5 speed trans out of the 92 s10's that came with the 2.5L? I believe its the same trans as the 2.8... Re: Swapping? Heres A List Of Parts And Answered Questions!
i'm being told 2 different thing. that 1) i can just get the comp for the lt1 that i'm using and match that to the bcm that i have in the truck and 2) that i need to piggyback the new ecu to the old one. which one is it?? my truck is a 2000 xtreme if that makes a difference. Re: Swapping? Heres A List Of Parts And Answered Questions!
Lots of Great information here. Thanks to all those that have contributed to this thead and this site with their vast array of knowledge.
Here is my one question: Could this realistically be completed in one weekend if all extra parts were on hand and ready to go in? The reason I ask is because the S10 is my daily driver so the less amount of time she's off the road the better. Here's my plans... 1994 4.3 TBI 4L60E to 350 Carb 700R4 From what I've read thus far I'll need the following Headers Motor Mounts Fuel Fittings to connect to the Carb Guages and Either a vette radiator or electric fans and the 350 swap bible I read through this entire thread yesterday and probably missed something along the ways so please let me know... Thanks Bradley |

Re: Swapping? Heres A List Of Parts And Answered Questions!
Bradley - I guess a weekend job is feasible in one weekend if you have the knowledge, tools, time, parts etc... however, as with most major swaps there's always "gremlins", as we call them. that you just can't prepare for them, as well as the small nickle and dime stuff like hose clamps, fuel line, or vaccum tee's etc... So I can't rule it out, but I can't gurantee it either. I had all the "essential" parts in hand and started it hoping to have it running/ready to run right away and of course ran into different "gremlins". Such as fire wall modification, distributor clearance, fuel delivery issues etc... And this is just me speaking from my personal experience... the only way to tell is to jump in and get your hands dirty.
Also, As far as gauges, You don't necesarily need new ones, alot of us opt for new ones due to the simplicity of Auto Meter or other aftermarket gauges... Hope that helps a bit... |

Re: Swapping? Heres A List Of Parts And Answered Questions!
Here was another extremely helpful link concerning the rear, for anyone doing a V8 swap, outside of tranny DONT FORGET that 7.5 grenade...This link details an 8.8 (yes blue oval) rear swap that is very cheap and easy..but the benefits are awesome..just wanted to share.

Re: Swapping? Heres A List Of Parts And Answered Questions!
My truck came w a 350 combo. I have a 350 tpi all aluminum w 700r4 w harness and ecu. Besides fuel pump what else do I have to change? What about sensors? And exhaust clearance w tranny? The 350 in my truck now has an oil pan leak and a tranny coolant line leak. So I think its time for a change. Any help would be great.

Re: Swapping? Heres A List Of Parts And Answered Questions!
Go to your local junk yard and ask if you can watch the proper removal of the ECM harness. If you have a local pull your own part yard go and have a look at the ECM harness and how its installed. Not a whole lot to it, really.

Re: Swapping? Heres A List Of Parts And Answered Questions!
With fuel injection you can reuse some stock s10 parts from the fuel system. Like the fuel pump and pressure regulator. With a carb thats all gotta go w the swap. But a key point I need to make is w your truck being a 2000 model year. inspection might be an issue in your state. In NY we need to plug every car after 1994 into the computer for inspections. You cant plug anything into a carbed motor.
If you do go w FI check out painless wiring they have a harness for the 5.3 motor. It will make your FI swap go so easy. and i think they can do custom ecm flashing for heavilly upgraded motors. Good luck w your project. |
