starter...?

i have a slight problem...the other night i was cruising around and when i got home i shut the truck off and then tried to restart it cus i had to move it..
and a puff of smoke came out from under the truck pass side by front wheel almost where starter is...and i lost all power to everything no lights no radio no starter nothing....i checked all wires to see if there melted or anything and found non melted...no fuses or popped anywhere either...if my starter went bad would that cause me not to have power to anything?...and is there any way to check the starter? i tried jumping the post with a screwdriver and got nothing....im lost and need a lil help..

Re: starter...?

You should be able to jump it like mentioned. I just pulled mine out and took it to the parts store to get checked. Wan't too much of a pain.

Re: starter...?

even if your starter is bad you still should have power to everything else. If you have no power at all, check your batt first and go from there.

Re: starter...?

How about the battery cable on the alternator. I think it's labeled "BATT"

Re: starter...?

Check the fusible links. The battery (+) wire is the large center terminal on the solenoid. The other wires that are on that same terminal are fusible links. If they 'blow' there will be no power to the truck.
