Re: rad w\long wp

Let me post my writeup on here. I have a long neck style waterpump also.

I had the idea in the back of my head about installing a radiator in the A/C cooler's place since I dont have a/c and i really want an electric fan. Now that I have done some research on it I see that its a fairly common mod. I thought I would post some-what informative photos for those attempting to do this on a 1st gen.

The inside diameter of the mounting area (15 3/4" x 32").

Next I searched for a decently priced radiator that I could have shipped out and recieved within the same week. I found a Griffin 15.5" x 27.5 3" deep dual-core radiator from Summit for $207 after shipping.

I removed the rubber mounts that were once in the radiators area and pounded down the tabs to make more clearance.

A screw is mounted in the center that will interfere with the radiator and possibly damage it. I just grounded down the tip about 1/2" to 3/4".

I bought a simple air cutting tool from Wal-Mart and cut the top of the bracket for the radiator filler neck to slide in.

My truck came with a lame single row radiator that was weaseled in and my fan was a 4-blade that was bolted directly to the water pump pulley. A flex fan wouldn't even had fit in that space it was so tight. I have much more space to work with now to allow an electric fan to fit.

This is the semi-final product. I took a dremel and ground off the sharp edges and painted the area. I have yet to install the external tranny cooler. I have cleaned up the engine bay and done some engine work since the 1st photo was taken.

I have no overheating issues!

Installed the electric fan setup. Cost me $83 for the fan and adjustable fan relay kit on Ebay.

The final product

I am running a high-flow water pump and high-flow thermostat also. I have barely seen 190 on a 90 degree day.
