Need some 350 info

I saw a really good write up on the 4.3, with regards to the various years, and what the changes on each one was - sort of a timeline thing.

Is there anything anyones seen like that for the 350's?

If not.... I've got a line on a 1990 TBI engine out of a Suburban. I'm trying to figure out if there were any inherent flaws in that era, and things like the cam - is it a roller in that year? I need to let the guy know if I'm going to take it or not pretty quick.

I'm not overly concerned about the head flow, as I've got plans to put a set of AFR's on it in a year or so.

Thanks!

That don't have too much useful information, but its the best I know of. I'd be interested to see something more detailed myself.

55'-86' 262-400 sbc are totaly interchangable 100% bearly anyhting was changed other than bore and stroke sizes. but the 85-86 corvette that had aluminum heads were a little different. 85'-86' tuned port injection systems are interchangeabale with all 55'-86' blocks with no mods

87' and up blocks are one piece main seal roller engines with centerbolt valve covers. 92-97 LT1/LT4 engines use a similar block with similar heads but nothing interchanges with the 87-up blocks. the tbi was used from 87-95 in most gm cars and trucks.

in 96' the vortec was introduced. it used a plastic short runner intake. the vortec heads were based on the lt1 port design but can fit on any 55-up block. the gen1 based block vortec was used till 2000 I belive but in 98 the ls based engine was introdued which is 100% new and is totaly different. 4.8,5.3,5.7,6.0 are all ls based engines.

cars got roller motors in 87 but trucks got flat tappet motors till 95.

granted they both run a roller block, but trucks dont have a roller cam

OK, thanks all - that pretty much sums up what I needed to know.

Oh yeah - IF I wanted to run a roller cam on this block, is it pretty much just swapping the cam and lifters over (and possibly adding the thrust washer) ?

yes you can swap it over. You will need the lifters(of course)If you use stock you will need to get a retainer to hold them in place. There are 3 bosses in the lifter vally that are already threaded for this.GM sells a hot cam I think it is 260 bux or so.You can scavange the lifters and retainers from a junk yard block,305 or 350 are the same, while you are there score the washer and bolts for the cam as well.Save where you can
