Need a guide on building ignition system

My trucks ignition is doing very goofy things. My brake light filaments will blow out after running the truck for a few minutes and then the truck will start to misfire. After that the truck will not turn on and there is no electricity accessing the ignition. It will sit for a few minutes and be ok suddenly. My alternator had started smoking also but hasnt done it since. I am going to go through all the wiring and also removing all heating and cooling interior components and wiring. This is where I want to build a trusty ignition system of my own.

SH-60B can only hope to improve
Re: Need a guide on building ignition system

This sounds like the regulator in the alternator has failed. I think the alternator is running full field, well over 14 volts.

this sounds possible is it a second gen, if so, u might not have any activity anymore because the fuse under the bat tray and attached to the core might have went, which would be very possible if the regulator has gone, first gens have something similar on the fire wall

1st gen. I was thinking it was the voltage regulator on the firewall. I don't think the alternator is internally regulated since this is an older 350 engine. Or maybe I am supposed to have an internally regulated alternator from the swap?

Do you mean amps or volts?

Re: Need a guide on building ignition system

Maybe I just need to buy the correct alternator with internal regulator, what alternator that would fit a 350 bracket would have the correct regulator on it?
