My V8 build 87 S10 Short box ( tons of pics )

This was a project that I started back in June, I bought the truck from a buddy for $400. We had the intention of building the truck together and we did for the most part. I bought a stock running 305 for $50. We pulled this 305 out of a 86 Camaro, that motor originally came out of a 82 C10 pick up. There was a 200r4 that my buddy had laying around so I bought that from him for $100, that tranny has 80k on it and came out of a 86 Monte Carlo. most of the work was done when it was at the shop but it has since been moved to my house so I can finish the project. Heres some pics, well, lots of pics.

This is how I bought the truck

Undercoated bed

Painted the firewall and recoated the front of the frame

The engine after its arrival

I desided that since everyone does Orange I was going to be different and do the old Chevy blue

So the build was on in full force, the power plant LOL its a 305 mind you

The original radiator support was rotted to crap heres a pic from the guy i bought it from, I was going to grab the fenders too but they were rough.

Cleaned up the interior a bit and painted the floor

It was time to drop the engine in the truck

Then the wife called, and the night was over

Radiator support was cleaned and painted and installed with a 4.3 radiator

She sees the light of day with her fenders reinstalled, the front end goes on

This is how she sits as we speak you can see im in the process of wiring the engine up now, should fire up for the first time real soon, just in time to go back in the garage for the winter.

ya... most header paints arent worth a shit regardless of what it is. I ceramic coat for a living and I dont know how many people bring me headers they painted with "ultra super mega high temp paint" only to have it fall off... I have actually been looking for one that works, just so I know there is one out there

although, I think majority of the time, the problem is the prep work, not so much the material itself

The header paint was that semi gloss black "high temp" paint that you can get from AZ, I know it will not last but it looks good for now. this is what they lookedlike in the beginning, I bought this engine so i could get some extra parts. I was thinking of using this motor in the truck but when we cracked it open it was full of water.

I know im trying to figure out how to get it in the radiator support, its just sitting there right now its not bolted in or anything. There are not fluids in the truck except oil, from when we tested the oil pressure. might work on that today.

I think I used rustoium last time, its best if they are bare, do not primer, the primer will flake and burn off!

Yes it is I figured it would look good but man it stands high in the truck. But it shifts the tranny that is all I care about I can take it out later. There is only 2 welds when i put it in so if i need to I can.

Yeah its the stock 4.3 radiator im dont think a 305 will have any issues with cooling for the 305, at least that is what I have read. Im hoping today to have it turning over, I need a new carb to get it running.

Good luck with your build its a ton of fun and a huge pain in the ass but its worth it in the end.

Where are you, how much do you want and where is she at in the build? You may want to pm me with that info, I know there are separate classified areas and this isn't one of them.
