my first v8 swap
ok here goes....Ive got a 93 sonoma 2.8 5spd that im going to swap to v8,ive done alot of camaro, nova etc swaps before just trying to get feed back on difficulty and estimated time frame on this swap. Book from JTR on the way,I know I need the obvious headers, mounts etc.....I guess one other question would be how to do a carb set up and keep my accesories??? A/C?? not worried about gauges,I plan a autometer set up.I am also looking for a 5 spd from 4.3.the v8 will be around 350hp do you think the 5 spd will hold up???sorry about all the ?'s thx in advance

Re: my first v8 swap
The 4.3 tranny is known as the nv3500 or getrag. It will work fine as long as you dont do 5000 rpm clutch drops at every light or stop sighn.
2-4 hours for a gearhead!!,not a rookie... ![]() |

Re: my first v8 swap
If you are going carb for sure!?,simply just cut the wires going to the computer, thats the easy way to do it.You will need the 4.3/v8 acc. and brackets. On the speedo, it is electric and the nv3500 is electric,so dont cut the twisted wires that run to the tranny or the back up lights(if you want them)The wires that go to the alternator, ac,ect, you will keep and simply reuse them.Including the main red wire for the dizzy, the thick purple wire for the starter all stay, dont cut them. Then if you want, unplug the wires from the driverside firewall and get a eye glass screwdriver to un-pin them to clean up the harness. It is simple, but could be kinda nerve racking.
(((EDIT))) I'm not totally sure, but, on the electric speedo, I "think" you can change the cluster to an 88 or older to drive a speedo, but then again, the tranny is electric.thats been talked about on here befor though. Last edited by s10-den : 07-03-2008 at 07:03 PM. |
