looking for a new cam for 97 5.7 L31
I have been searching everywhere for a 4-7 swap cam for a 97 vortec L31 with as close to stock cam specs as possible.
For those of you wondering what a 4-7 swap is, its cyl. 4 and cly. 7 swap firing order. If anyone knows where to find such a cam please reply. |

Re: looking for a new cam for 97 5.7 L31
Wasnt aware anyone made one for the LT1/4. As odd as it is to say, its still an exotic swap. Not many people do it...Not sure why not, considering the benifits. But I'd have to say, you will probably have trouble finding an off the shelf 4-7 cam. But, I would be willing to bet, that if you called Comp, and talked to the right person, that they would grind you one. When I did my cam, I talked probably 4-5 Times, to a guy at comp.. Ben Hadley, Took awsome care of me, cut me exactly what I wanted, Ground the cam of my dreams (based off the 270..But very modified)... Thats what I would do... Call and talk to them, see what you can do, or what they can do

I think that this paragraph will sum it up for this build:
(copied and pasted from the above Hot Rod Link) "Is it right for you? Clearly, the 4/7 swap has benefits, but whether you'll see them or not in your engine depends on its purpose. Lunati's Humphreys explains, "It really has to do with good heads and intake. With stock castings, I wouldn't expect to see any difference." In fact, he went so far as to say he'd actually lost a little power once when testing the 4/7 swap on a stock 350 Chevy." |

Re: looking for a new cam for 97 5.7 L31
sorry to change the subject but doesz anyone know how easy it is to swap a L31 into the 2003 Xtremes? I am looking at doing it, I just want the factory gauges to work. I dont know how to wire the computer in. I was told I can keep the same one I just need to figure out how to wire in the fuel injection and the gauges. I know it cant be that hard if I had a diagram of the computer harness. Can anyone give me some ideas? I am going to the GM garage when I get back to the states and see if they will help me out.
