Insurance

Just quick question which u all may think is dumb, but when u did the swap to a v8 did u keep the insurance as the original motor, or did u tell them it was an 8 cylinder?

Re: Insurance

Unless your getting full coverage insurance that also pays for your modifications, then I wouldn't bother telling them.

It might be illegal, but who's checking?

Re: Insurance

I've got full coverage & my agent never asked me what I've done to it. When my motor caught fire I just sent him pictures, told him what I needed to fix it & he cut me a check.

Re: Insurance

I think a lot of has to do with how much you have into your truck...when mine is done it will definately have full coverage with every modification noted.

Just my insurance agent, has been for over 20 years, I showed him a picture, told him about what I would need to fix it, and they sent me a check.

Ahh, being with the same guy for 20 years sure does help.

Still lucky, and glad it worked out. Not a lot of insurance people are that nice

Re: Insurance

full coverage on my truck isnt much more expensive
than just liability. i keep the collision/comprehensive
because the cost savings just arent enough to
justify dropping it...
same with my wife's 05 Equinox...

ahahaahhaha every penny. youll get book value if your lucky. some insurance companies go by the market, basicly they look for 3 cars like yours that are for sale and average them. so if they find 2 for 500 and one for 2000 then your only getting $1000

Even with a long list of receipts you have to have the extra insurance, not just your basic full coverage

Re: Insurance

im with State Farm and they told me they can only ding me once for the one ticket i have and only ding me once for being under 25...so i pay $200 a month for my JDM Subaru WX and $114 for my truck fully covered. I'd look into that if you have 2 vehicles, they also have a multi vehicle discount or something. I almost shit myself when she told me that, i was paying almost $400 a month with my last company (wawanessa...they suck dick...meeeeaaan dick)

I pay less than $50 for liability on the suburban.

When I had the Sonoma, the Safari and the Taurus it was only $85

Re: Insurance

fully aware of which section its in.
havent you posted in the 4.3 section before???

my point was, that some were complaining about
the cost of full coverage.
i would be tempted to drop it too, if the the savings in
premiums was enough. in my case, it isnt...

jesus christ, just drop it, the initial question was what the V8 guys were doing as far as insurance goes. Nothing else.

Re: Insurance

You guys done now? LOL. Hey BLACKBULLET, after reading thru some of the other responses I remembered that I only had liability on it too. The way i saw it was, it was older and a very common truck. If someone hit me then their ins. would give me something, maybe enough to get a decent replacement that I could then swap all my V8 stuff into after "buying" the truck back from the ins. company. If I crashed it, of course my ins. would pay the other guy, and I'm sure I could find another non-running truck to swap my stuff into pretty cheaply, maybe not even an S10.
I didn't tell them it was an eight cylinder because it might open a can of worms is all. I was much more concerned about the emissions than the insurance.

Re: Insurance

i asked my state farm agent when i bought my 01 about a v8 swap. he said they go by vin number and it will show it has a 4cyl in it so unless i wanted extra ins it would be the same. i pay 300 a year for the 01 and 200 for the 94. I only pay 350 fo rmy WS6. all have liability. my vehicles are too common to spend the extra money, plus i know the owner of one of the best bodyshops in town. i work for him.

how do you like the 6.0L? i found one at a wrecker for $1000 with 80 000km's...i was thinking of grabbing it. My vortec 5.7 is ok, but not very impressive, plus the 6.0L swap sits alot nicer in our s10's

Re: Insurance

so I talked to my State Farm agent and he told me that State Farm is no longer covering modified vehicle

apparently they go by the VIN and thats it! you cannot add anything more than full coverage

Nope, most of your insurance agents cant change a wiper blad, more less tell the diference in a 4.3 and a 5.7.

Re: Insurance

thats quite true.
but an increasing number of companies would be willing to
"drop" you for informing them of such modifications,
and even more would try to use it as an excuse to not pay
up and/or drop you if they found out after a claim.

even if your local agent doesnt care, the company might
decide youre an "unacceptable risk"...

Re: Insurance

It depends on if you use your truck of a dd because American collectors will insure vehicles over 15 years old. There is a milage limit and other stipulations but more the most part it's not bad. I pay 200 a year for my 94 ss and that's full coverage. Im going to add my 83 Monte ss next year and it will be about 300 for both. Just something to look into.

Re: Insurance

I'm not planning on telling my agent when I complete the swap. He's kind of an idiot and I try not to deal with him. Oh, I'm my own agent. LOL

Ok, here's the deal. Insurance companies go by VIN and will not know anything about added value unless you bring it to their attention. If you just have liability and don't care about comp and coll coverages, just don't say anything. If you want the added value to be covered, you definitely have to contact your agent as the policy states that it only covers the vehicle for OEM parts and value. If you ask the agent to endorse the policy for customizations, you will have your bases covered.
