Help With Emissions

hope this is the right place im new to the v8 conversion so i live in ga where you have to have emissions in most places so what are the rules on engine swaps here in ga as far as emissions go. I have a 1993 2.8 v6 with 5 speed manual wanting to go to 350 Thanks in advance

Re: Help With Emissions

not sure, but you may just have to pass HC and CO
sniffer requirements for 1993 models.
maybe a visual check for the converter.
you live in the metro Atl. area?
you might want to contact state or county
emission control authority to find out what
the requirements are.

Re: Help With Emissions

i called the clean air forcethey said that whatever motor i put in it when i get ready to do emissions the 350 has to meet the emissions requirements for the original motor ie the new 350 has to put out equal or less emissions than the 2.8 v6 i pull out is that even possible????

Re: Help With Emissions

absolutely.
its measured by "PPM" or parts per million, or percentage
of exhaust content, so even though the V8 will have a bigger
total volume of exhaust, as long as the sniffer's "sample" of
the gas doesnt exceed the maximum PPM or percentage, a
large V8 can pass just as easily as a small 4 cylinder...

Re: Help With Emissions

Getting a V8 to pass is fairly simple unless NOX is involved then it can be a little bit of a pain in the butt. The biggest issue is do the have to pass visual. Then you can have issues like needing cat fuel injection and everything else to make it pass.
