edelbrock whao's
I've got an edelbrock performer 600, and latley i have had nothing but issues. At idle, should I be able to see fuel going into the primarys? Its been idling extremely rough in gear, but as soon as you come off idle its fine.

Check the needle and seat, might have a piece of debris keeping it from closing. If you dont know where it is, its the large screw and nut on top of the bowl.

Re: edelbrock whao's
Second parts answer may be in the idle mixture screws depending on camshaft etc. |

How are you setting your idle screws?

Re: edelbrock whao's
about three half turns out. It idles fine untill its in drive. Once you are driving, its fine, you come up to a stop sign, it gets super rough, and then as soon as you come off idle, its fine again.

Re: edelbrock whao's
you guys were right. idle mixture screws. I decided to take them out as far as i could, cleared right up. Grantid now im probably way too rich but its cleared right up. Also, should I have my vac advance on the ported vacuum or full vac?

Re: edelbrock whao's
got that switched also. Now, I have read the procedure in the owners manual of my carb to set the idle screws, but I don't have someone to sit in the truck and look at the tach for me. Does anyone know of an good easy way to set the screws, to the right spot?

Re: edelbrock whao's
A good and easy way is with a vacuum gage. Adjust the screws for greatest vacuum. BTW, you can use full manifold vacuum for the distributor if you want. Ported helps reduce emissions.

Re: edelbrock whao's
it seems to have more power under full vac, and my trans seems to shift better at ported. As for the vacuum gauge, I may have to give that shot. Tonight i just messed with it untill the transition from idle to moving was smooth, and it seems to be doing alright.

Re: edelbrock whao's
For best mileage, I will turn them in all the way, back them out 1.5 turns, start the car, and then turn them back in until it idles rough. Then back it off just until its smooth. You might have to go more than 1.5 turns out if it's rough the whole time, which would depend on your setup. My 350 monte is set like that and I'm getting 21+ mpg with a 50/50 mix of city and highway and the 6 speed. |

Re: edelbrock whao's
thats essentially what I did. I backed them out untill it idled smooth and a had a smooth idle to slight throttle transition. When I had it super rich, It loaded up and would pop out of the carb if I let it idle too long and then tried to rev it at all, once i leaned it up just a hair, it runs great. almost smoother than my daily.

Re: edelbrock whao's
Good deal man, glad to hear you got it fixed.
If you ever get the idle right and have problems going to part or wide open throttle, there is an accelerator pump adjustment that you can make too. Just pull the little tiny cotter pin and move the linkage from the throttle linkage to the diaphram on the top of the carb. The further you move it away from the pivot point, the slower your accelerator pump comes in. Last edited by SickSpeedMonte : 08-12-2008 at 02:41 PM. |
