Re: BBC 598 in 1996 S10 LS.... Newbie.... Help...
you'll want to defenitely upgrade the front disc brakes man. i'll suggest a cheap upgrade
newer blazer dual piston calipers and some drilled/slotted rotors help alot. and you can run a set of drop spindles for a blazer as well. |

Re: BBC 598 in 1996 S10 LS.... Newbie.... Help...
OK so i will get the front Dics Upgrade and thinking on using an AFCO double core Aluminium Radiator with Doulbe Electric Fans, One in Front one in back of Radiator (Push and Pulling Set Up). That should keep her cool along with the 4" Cowl Hood and thinking to notch out the front Grill for better airflow.
Do you think that the upgrades are good enough for the 598 BBC that we want to put in her and will this N/A engine make some good times on the Strip? Thanks Matt Last edited by Manewaymja2 : 10-22-2009 at 10:34 AM. |

If you can get it hooked, it should run fine. I used to have a Pro street '78 malibu w/BB with nitrous. It ran 6.50's in the 1/8th. Show some pics when you get a chance.

I will Spray NOS as well once i get her Launching great first and stable on the Top end. Im Expecting 6 to High 5's in the 1/8th, Do you think thats possible? I call shenanigans... anyone who was smart enough to attempt to put a 598 in an S10 better have the brains to know they're gonna need better brakes..

not if its just a strip queen and only seeing mild street...most strips have alot of runway at the end to slow...and ive got a friend running in the low low 11's in a 68 baracuda with 4wheel drums!!! so it can be done...i would suggest a midplate or front plat or some kinda of limiting strap for the engine...most motor mounts arnt designed for shit tones of torque....and then just make sure the week points are braced good....

) and just threw out the two hubs. The whole get and go can be had for cheap. You could probably just do an upgrade with the S10 spindles and save yourself the troubles of sealed bearings in front. I think Ed from www.flynbye.com has a couple kits to use with S10 spindles. I think we need pics of this beast. |

Re: BBC 598 in 1996 S10 LS.... Newbie.... Help...
I agree you won't see much advantage running the blazer dual piston setup over stock front brakes. Quite a few people I know have done the swap and you can't tell any difference at all with it. Biggest plus was doing the rear disc swap. As long as you have a track with good shut down run room you will be fine man. Just put some good pads and rotors on it and you should be ok... But i guess alot does depend on how fast that thing runs lol Goodluck man

Well it's not like he's going to take it to the Texas mile and try to get a 200mph trap seed
as long as he's not stupid with it it'll be fine. |

Re: BBC 598 in 1996 S10 LS.... Newbie.... Help...
IMO if you're going to spend the money for a brake swap I'd just go with C5 or LS1 brakes, you can get ones from KORE3, a full kit lines, rotors, and pads for about $500. I think it also comes with the brackets to fit to an S10. If you go used you can get the setup for even cheaper.
pics when you can, this sounds like an intense build! |

Re: BBC 598 in 1996 S10 LS.... Newbie.... Help...
Ok Guys heres the thing, the Truck has been striped of everything thats not going back in as well as the Back is off now along with the front fenders and grill, The 2.2 lemon is out along with the small azz gear box, The interior has been completely striped as well. We have placed an order for the follwing items from out of the US that will be here in about 2 weeks from yesterday and is as follows:
This is a direct fit for this Truck.Welded rear frame with Ladder Bars and Ford 9" 2- FAT MAN S-10 STOCK WIDTH TUBULAR A-ARM 3- P/S REAR BRAKE KIT W/ DISC/DRUM PARKING 4- PRO STREET FRONT BRAKE KIT - -79-87 GM 5- HOUSING 9" FORD FOR 10-503 & 10-505 WEL 6- HOUSING HARDWARE KIT - 9" FORD 7- AXLE PACKAGE - PRO RACE AXLES/BEARINGS/ 8- INSTALL ACCESS HOLES IN NEW AXLES - PAI 9- FULLY ASSEMBLED 9" IRON CENTER W/ POSI 10- OPTION - UPGRADE TO TRANS-TECH LOCKER 11- 8 Point Roll Cage (will have custom added points when installed) The Engine is a 598 from http://www.shafiroff.com/sportsman/598_985.asp That will come with a Custom 4 Speed AOD and then once fitted i will install a one piece diveshaft. We will be running N/A untill i get the beast straight down the track then in goes the 200 Shot NOS. I will be getting the V8 Conversion Mounts and yes i will look into the Plate as a means to keep her still. We have other things going in as well that we have not yet ordered such as the AFCO radiator, Fiberglass Hood and front fenders, drive shaft loop, Subframe conectors(Custom), Race Seats, Lexan rear glasses, Then the tires and so on and on as im sure there will be alot more, but for now we are doing the Chassi build up and reinforcing, Once the work starts i will be posting Pics. Thanks allot guys & i assure you this will come to past. Matt By the way this is my Fathers Truck that we are doing as a project together and i will be the driver. This will not be my first drag race either so i am well aware that safety first then Power. Keep the advice coming guys, it will all help with the proper build up, two heads are better than 1 Thanks again for all the info. |

Re: BBC 598 in 1996 S10 LS.... Newbie.... Help...
no one mentioned headers...your gonna need some headers to fit that bbc in the there....i think lemons and Stahl both make a set....i wouldnt use the v8 conversion mounts with that engine....i would make a set of custom solid mounts or a motor plate setup.....the mounts have to work with the headers so figure that out before you order parts that wont work together....also a serious fuel system for that motor. especially if your gonna spray it

Re: BBC 598 in 1996 S10 LS.... Newbie.... Help...
OK did some more searching and yes i have found the headers (Lemon/Stahl)and yeah i see now that using the Mount kit will not make any sense, so im opting to build my own mounts and use a plate as well.
With the amount of metal cut away from the Kmemeber does anyone recomend reinforcing the K Member once engine is installed? Or Will it be OK. ![]() |

I would DEFINATELY box in that one part in front of the oilpan. There's one thread around here with an LS swap and they did an awesome job of making a new crossmember.

Re: BBC 598 in 1996 S10 LS.... Newbie.... Help...
i say box in the front part of the frame. cuz if its running say 800hp at the rear wheels then thats gonna be at least 660 on torque ur gonna pull that front wheel off the ground and twist the frame. the back id box so it wont buckle but u gotta box up front for twist.

Manewaymja2, i was running a 402 BB with 350 hp nitrous making around 800 hp. I was running that on slicks also, but i had 30x15 M&H racemaster street tires. I'm not sure if they make those anymore.

bb in a s10 thats just over kill. Not to be a azz but that truck is going to be crazy. I saw a BB in a 92 s10 at the local hang out here in orlando and it had two radiators one in the front one in the bed. He was ready for baja. Its pretty hard to keep things cool down here.
