Re: battery relocation problems

I had mine in the trunk on my 5oh, Had problems starting until I put a big, heavy gauge ground from the engine to the frame.

Re: battery relocation problems

X2 need to make sure engine is grounded. Is the neg to the frame or a body part? Needs to be to the frame. Did you solder the ends on the welding cable?

Re: battery relocation problems

make sure you have a solid connection going through the ground. body/frame/ or even another 2ga wire

Re: battery relocation problems

I always over-do the whole ground cable to chassis/engine/battery to be safe. Remember that your starter is grounding itself to the engine block (atleast in some vehicles) and so are some accessories and so on. I would hook the cables up like so:

4-6 gauge wire to chassis from battery(short cable to bolt or screw to chassis in trunk)

4-6 gauge cable from battery to engine block or heads/intake

4-6 gauge cable from engine block to chassis

Your car is a big ball of electricity and the chassis is a valid ground from most anywhere. I once bought a car where the previous owner had rebuilt the engine and then put the ground connection on the rubber motor mount and the engine would randomly start.

Re: battery relocation problems

you can solder a large lug on the positive with a propane torch and solder, that will give you a good connection on the positive.

if you are talking about soldering directly to the battery..... i reccomend against it unless you seriously know what you are doing.....

Re: battery relocation problems

I did something similar in my monte by moving the bat to the trunk. the bat is to the frame and I have all the motor ground straps in place but I did something different with the factory ground cable that I left attached up front and ran that to the frame also. figured what the hell cant hurt.
