alternator question!!

i'm not real savvy on engine stuff quite yet so trying to search for what i need and not finding much

I have a 355(not significant) on my alternator what all connections do i run off of it? i know on of my terminals on it go to the battery what else do i have to have off of it? do i have a ground that needs hooked up? my battery does not want to stay charged so i am guessing i am missing a ground but did not know for sure if there has to be a ground and if so do i ground it to block or chassis or what?
